TRINITY FIFTH GRADERS - "IT'S ALL GREEK (GODS) TO THEM!"

May 3, 2016 - Ellicott City, MD

In a traditional celebration of the closure of lessons, research and reporting on the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece, the fifth grade students at Trinity School celebrate their success by assuming the character of their favorite Greek god or goddess.

In addition to helping their students craft realistic costumes, parents pitch in by supplying yummy treats similar to those which would have been consumed by the early Greeks. Figs, dates, fruit, spanikopita and other delicacies adorned a table with a feast fit for Zeus or Poseidon or Aphrodite.

While in costume each student presented to his or her class the story of the god or goddess they represented, including why they chose the god they dressed as, what were the characteristics of each god and if they carried a prop, what the prop represented and why it would have been important to the people of that time.

This particular presentation is the continuation of the process begun at Trinity in kindergarten to teach students how to speak in public by sharing their knowledge with confidence, strength and poise. Of course, if you happen to be dressed as Zeus, this is much easier when you are holding a bolt of lightening in your hand!
