Healing Power of
Triple Gong & Mantra
Friday -
June 10 - 6:30 to 7:45 pm
Kundalini Yoga in the Loop (KYL) The Fine Arts Building - Suite 501
featuring Hari Dev Singh, Jasdeep Kaur,
and Sanjam Singh
Bring a friend and join us for one of our most popular monthly sessions of
triple gong and mantra! As always, we begin every ‘Healing Power of Gong & Mantra’ session with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one, but
three beautiful Paiste symphonic gongs.
Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!
After the gong we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was
built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of
sounds, we are able to tune into a different level of intelligence, or,
consciousness. Fee just $17 at-the-door. Or,

KYL Graduates Level 1 Instructors of Kundalini Yoga
View Photo Gallery (courtesy of Guru Nam Kaur) |
On Sunday, June 5, friends and family members gathered on the tenth floor of the Fine Arts Building to honor the commitment, time, energy and devotion of those who completed KYL’s ten weekend Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training course in Chicago. Their Graduation Ceremony
was both moving and enlightening for all present.
Each teacher-in-training joined Shakta on-stage and shared the meaning of their spiritual name. They also shared one learning or remembrance that they will always keep with them as a result of taking the course. Saying the Kundalini Yoga Teachers Oath ('I am not a woman, I am not a man, I am not a person, I am not myself, I’m a teacher!’) aloud as an individual came next. Then the entire class came on-stage to say the Teachers Oath together and take photos.
The new Instructors then taught a beautiful mantra meditation to their guests and honored Shakta Kaur, Hari Dev Singh and assistants Jasdeep Kaur, Ram Nam Kaur and Guru Nam Kaur before the ceremony ended with the Long Time Sunshine Song. Afterward, everyone enjoyed a delicious (and abundant!) potluck meal together.
Graduates pictured above (left to right): Paramdesh Kaur (Heather Beck), Hari Karam Kaur (Virginia Olson), Onkarjot Kaur (Janet Kellum), Aman Jiwan Kaur (Miriam Dasic), Namleen Kaur (Suvi-Tuulia Keto), Ramsaran Kaur (Valerie Heady), Sahejliv Kaur (Lorraine Reeb), Harbir Kaur (Edith Ducoing). Not pictured: Dharampreet Kaur (Robbin Carroll), Sarab Nidhan Kaur (Kara Gillespie).

40 Days after White Tantric Yoga
- Today!
|
Thursday - June 9
is 40 Days After White Tantric Yoga
|
One hundred seventy-six students from twelve different states and four countries
participated in Chicago on April 30th for the single day of meditation with a partner called White Tantric Yoga (WTY). But, that was just the beginning because this one day of meditation takes another 40 days to become completely integrated into the subconscious.
Since April 30th many of those who participated in WTY Chicago have chosen a kriya* or meditation to practice consistently for 40 days afterward. Forty days is a length of time referred to in many ancient scriptures for enacting change. Doing something for 40 days can either make a new habit or break an old habit. If you are consistent with the practice, you can clear old subconscious patterns, set up new positive patterns and change your life for the better.
Consistent - The key word is ‘consistent,’ however! How does this work? You choose a specific time of day—early morning, for example—to practice your sadhana**. If you choose the morning, but one day you oversleep or are late for work, be sure to practice your meditation somewhere within the 24 hours before the next morning. The goal is not to miss even one day! However, don’t be too hard on yourself up if you wake up one morning and realize you missed one day. Just pick up where you left off and continue your sadhana as we move closer to Thursday, June 9th.
Remember that WTY unfolds in your life the entire 40 days afterward. If you feel your life going sideways or upside down, stay centered and ‘keep up.’ Know that these changes are completely natural as WTY works to remove subconscious blocks and eventually brings more clarity and flow to your life.
Congratulations on continuing your daily sadhana, connecting with others in yoga classes and praying for the continued growth of your individual and our collective consciousness.
And, celebrate reaching 40 days after WTY Chicago by coming to class at KYL on Thursday, June 9th!
We'll be very happy to see you!
Click Here to register for class at KYL on June 9.
* Kriya literally means ‘completed action.’ In Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® a kriya is a sequence of yoga postures linked to mantra and breath to produce a particular effect.
** Sadhana means spiritual discipline, most often referring to an early morning daily spiritual practice.

Moon Watch

New Moon -
June 1
11 Days After - June 12
Full Moon - June 15
(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)
|
New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is
a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the
next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."
Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full
Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher
centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people
or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress
of your special projects.
11 Days After
New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance.
The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism
is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you
live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect.
Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon
and water the rest of the day.
Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest
energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum,
so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your
energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this
day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink
cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought
to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down
so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it,
you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper,
a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous
causing side effect.)
Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New
Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations
from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought
of as the best time to start a new project.
