SupportGSTFThroughTargetYou Can Support GSTF
Through Target!

To our friends and supporters,

We are honored and excited to announce that we have been chosen to participate in a special charitable giving campaign, sponsored by our local Target store. And you are invited to help!

Participating is simple: starting Tuesday, September 5 and running through Sunday, November 5, you will have the opportunity to vote on how Target should allocate a $5,000 contribution among three featured nonprofits addressing local issues.

We are one of those nonprofits!

We're asking our supporters to help us make the most of this incredible opportunity by voting for us when you are at the Target store in Hialeah this fall. Every vote counts to help us raise funds as we continue our mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Learn more here.

Thank you for your support, and don't forget to share your support for us (and your thanks to Target) on social media throughout the duration of the voting campaign.

 Membership1718What Year Is It?!
The Girl Scout membership year runs from October 1 - September 30. The CURRENT year (2017 membership year) ends September 30, 2017. NEXT year (2018 membership year) begins October 1, 2017. If a girl or adult is a new member, they should register for the NEXT year (no worries about insurance, they are covered for the gap between now and October 1).

Co-leaders who are utilizing the VTK for planning, make certain your role is renewed for 2018. You must be a registered member for 2018, renew your role (co-leader) and have a background check that is current in order to access the VTK and your troop roster. We are aware many adults who have current background checks are requested to do a new background check- some of our old system and former paper information did not transfer correctly to our new online system. Please do a new one, and you will be good for 3 years!

StoryoftheWeekStory of the Week!
Shannon and Jacqueline McCloskey
Took Charge During Hurricane Irma!

When Shannon, Jacqueline, and their family evacuated to Sarasota, they had no idea that Hurricane Irma would shift to where they were staying and that they would end up staying at a hurricane shelter there. As they waited out the storm, a girl around 9 years old mentioned wanting a "GNO" (girls night out) and Shannon and Jacqueline stepped in to make this happen! The next day, they spread the news that they would be having a Girls Night Out and invited boys and girls of all ages to participate. Using the knowledge they learned from their CIT training, they interacted with the children in the hurricane shelter by playing games like hot potato and drawing pictures. They were even able to make s'mores, which some of the children never had before. These Girl Scouts were G.I.R.L.s and made an unfortunate situation a day to remember for many children and their parents staying at that hurricane shelter!
