Come join us for our second annual Trout Spey Clinic on Saturday October 21st! This event will be focused around the gear used to fish trout or smallmouth with a Spey rod. Even though these are smaller Spey rods than what is used for steelhead, this is still a great opportunity to learn how to make some casts and understand the line setups.
This is a free event!
Due to such high demand last year, we decided to do things a little different this year so we could accommodate more anglers. We will be having the event at the store and the casting instruction at either Greenbrier Lake or an easy wading section of the Potomac River near the store. As we get a little closer to the event we will determine the location for the casting portion.
Here is the itinerary for the day:
*Meet at the fly shop at 8:30 am for coffee and donuts. We will then leave and go to the water for Spey casting instruction with Tom Martin of Heavy Water Anglers.
*After the instruction we will head back to the fly shop for lunch around noon.
*After a break for lunch there will be some time to play with more rods and ask more questions. Then we will have a presentation on Spey Lines by James Jindal. James is our Sage, RIO and Redington Sales Representative and expert on Spey Lines.
*After another break and some time to ask questions about lines, Tom Martin will step back in and do a Trout Spey fly tying class.
At the bottom of this newsletter is an RSVP for the event. We would greatly appreciate your response if you're interested in coming. We only have a limited number of rods and lines to use, so this will help us get an idea of how we will go about the casting portion of the day. We will have plenty of single hand rods available for everyone to play with while they wait for their chance with the trout speys.
