Dear RWF Friends,

"Happy Pride!" These two words are quite common in the LGBTQ community at this time of year due to the designation of June as National Pride Month. First established to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York and their meaning for the LGBTQ community, Pride has also become an opportunity in recent years, especially, to celebrate the many rights that have been gained by the gay community here in America. But was we were quickly reminded by the horrific acts in Orlando recently, the LGBTQ community remains one of the most targeted and threatened communities in America. According to a recent analysis by the Southern Poverty Law Center, LGBTQ people are more than twice as likely to be the target of a violent hate-crime than Jews or black people. They are more than four times as likely as Muslims, and almost 14 times as likely as Latinos" to be attacked.

Rainbow World Fund was founded to promote world peace, unity and hope by helping people in need while increasing positive visibility of the LGBTQ movement. We serve those most in need, regardless of race, religion, political belief or sexual orientation. And as the recent events in Orlando show, there is more need now than ever to not only help others, but to do it in a way that promotes positive visibility of the LGBTQ community.

As we all celebrate this month the progress that our community has enjoyed in recent years, let us also reflect on how much farther we have to go. In so doing, I hope that you will consider renewing your commitment to Rainbow World Fund and our mission by not only making a gift to help us support victims in Orlando, but also those in countries around the world who are also oppressed and victimized for doing nothing more than being who they were born to be.

HELPING THE VICTIMS OF THE ORLANDO SHOOTING

We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Orlando. Tragedies create many financial needs through loss of work, medical costs not covered by insurance, and funeral costs. Rainbow World Fund is currently working with organizations in Orlando that are providing aid to the victims and their families. If you would like to help, please consider making a tax-deductible donation our secure website or by mailing a check. Please specify "Orlando".

We are committed to ensuring that all LGBTQ people are accepted fully wherever they live, and that the world will see that our community is one of peace, hope, and love.
