Dear Parents,

This past Sunday was the official kick off of Catholic Schools Week. We were thrilled to see so many of our outstanding students attending Mass in their uniforms, serving Mass and handing out postcards after Mass. We are also appreciative of the students who sang and performed at Mass; including  Lyn Cyubahiro, Alexis Florit, Isaura Hernandez, Luciana Mancebo, Shawna McCoy, Kyla O'Byrne, Brendan Black and  Kevin Kirk !  The feedback from parishioners was extremely positive . Thank you for showing our community what makes our students so special! If you wore your uniform to Mass please click  here , you will have a free dress day on Tuesday, February 7th.

We are proud to announce our new, STS Student Digital Magazine thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Anderson, her advanced writing students, Ms. Nash and Mrs. Rutledge! Please click here.

I am pleased to share with you Mr. Pryor's January Academic Newsletter! Please click here to see some of the great things going on at Saint Timothy!

nurse
I am sad to announce that our beloved nurse, Mrs. Snowden, will be leaving STS due to personal reasons. Her last day will be Friday, 2/3/17. On behalf of our school community, I'd like to thank Mrs. Snowden for her numerous contributions to our school and for the loving care she has shown our students over the past 18 months. She will be greatly missed and we will keep her in our prayers. Please know that we are in the process of interviewing viable candidates to fill the nurse position and will inform the community when a final decision has been made.

Thousands of Virginia students receive the financial assistance they need to attend Catholic and other nonpublic K-12 schools through the Education Improvement Scholarships tax credit program.  Virginia can help many more children if bills pass this year to increase the tax credit to 90% from 65%, and to make low-income pre-K students eligible for the program.  Please  take action here  to tell your state delegate and senator to support these bills.

Last week, Mr. Pryor sent out invitations to the parents of students who can benefit by participating in our after school tutoring program for language arts and Math. To date we have only received a few responses. We would like to start the classes next Tuesday, but if we do not have enough interest, we will have to cancel the sessions. If you are interested in having your child participate in the program I ask that you please complete and submit the registration form that was e-mailed last week.

On behalf of our teachers I'd like to thank our Kindergarten parents for a delicious Chinese New Year luncheon last week. We are so appreciative of your kindness and thoughtfulness!

This year our second grade students are scheduled to receive their First Penance on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:00a.m. in the Church. We ask that you please arrive with your child in the church at 9:45 am. We will keep our 2nd graders and their families in our prayers as they prepare to make their First Penance.

We invite you all to attend our first annual Talent Show this Saturday, 2/4 at 5:30 PM in the school gym. Come watch our talented students.

We are still in need of judges for this year's Science Fair. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Mrs. Karen Young. The information is posted on our school website.

Here is the list of activities for Catholic Schools Week:
Wednesday, February 1 - Celebrating Vocations
Students will make a short pilgrimage to the McGivney room where they spend some time reading some inspiring vocations messages from  various priests, seminarians, and sisters from our parish and school.    They will visit with Jesus in the Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy.  In their classrooms, they will also work on a monstrance craft or a vocations prayer to show the beauty of Adoration and vocations.  These will be used to decorate homeroom doors.

Thursday, February 2 - Celebrating Our Students
Students (K - 8) will show their unity by dressing in the same color

Clinic News

Clinic Issues: The Clinic continues to have  many reports from
parents of fevers (usu ~102), cough and congestion. Also, there have been diagnosed cases of Flu/Influenza in 1st, 6th and 8th.. We have not had many cases of Strep reported; however, if a child has had persistent tiredness, headache and/or stomach ache with worsening sore throat it may be worth a doctor's visit. We continue to get extra cleaning for this difficult flu and viral season in the classrooms and teachers are very diligent about wiping desk and handwashing.

5th Grade Parents: Rising 6th graders: I would like to remind everyone of the Virginia requirement for an additional TDap Booster immunization to enter into 6th grade. Adult Td is required for children 7 years of age and older.  It may be helpful to make your appointments now and hand in the proof of immunization before the end of the year. Otherwise it must be submitted before the first day to enter 6th grade.

God bless you!
Mrs. Patrice Snowden, BSN, RN
