Saint Timothy Catholic School
Tuesday, May 16, 2017
On behalf our our entire school community, I'd like to congratulate our 8th grade students on receiving the sacrament of Confirmation this past Saturday, May 13th. The Bishop met with the students and was very impressed with their preparation and knowledge of the Catholic faith.
I'd like to thank STS parent and CYO Track Coach Mrs. Pennell for successfully starting a new track program this year for our students and sharing her passion for and knowledge of the sport with them. Congratulations to all of our students for their great showing in this year's Diocesan Track Meets. We are so proud of you.
Please join us for a morning of prayer and reflection this Thursday, May 18th.
Our retreat will focus on ways that we, as parents, can grow in our prayer life and relationship with God and guide our children as they do the same.
The morning will begin at 9:00am with Mass in the Church and then will move to the McGivney Room. The retreat will end at noon. It will be followed by the Annual STS Volunteer Luncheon in the McGivney Room. If you are interested in attending the retreat, please RSVP as soon as possible to Mrs. Henry at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our spiritual retreat will be led by Carmen Briceno who has
wonderful retreats for our Middle School students and faculty this year. Ms. Briceno
was consecrated into the Order of Virgins in 2009 and has been speaking to
youth groups, young adults, catechists, schools, parents, and families throughout the Diocese. Ms. Briceno graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor's degree in Art and Visual Technology (2005) as well as a Masters in Education (2007). In 2010, she completed a Masters in Theology at the Notre Dame Graduate School of Christendom College. She has served as a missionary and full-time youth minister before beginning her full-time ministry called Happy Feet Ministries. Ms. Briceno is also a regular columnist for the Arlington Catholic Herald in Spanish on topics of Faith Formation for Families.
Our Virtues program draws to a close with
zeal. We demonstrate zeal by loving God so much it gives us energy. This May we focus, as a faculty, on showing the students our zeal for God, and the energy it gives us to truly live as disciples of Christ.
Please join us Saturday, May 20th, 2017 for a parish family picnic in appreciation of all that Father Weymes has done for our faith community. STS will be providing Father with a special gift in June. If you'd like to make a donation toward the farewell gift, Mrs. Moses will be collecting and consolidating all gifts for Father. If you'd like to donate funds toward father's gift, we ask that you please make out your check to Saint Timothy School. We plan to purchase a travel voucher that will allow Father to travel the world in his retirement.
In appreciation for all of the support that our families have provided to STS this past year, we are inviting everyone to attend our annual volunteer appreciation lunch on Thursday, May 18th, after the parent retreat. If you please to attend this year's luncheon, I ask that you please RSVP to Mrs. Kelly Schmank at email@example.com.
We are looking for help from our parent community in developing a digital solution for tracking our parent volunteer hours. We'd like to have the capability for parents to access and track their own hours. If you are interested in helping with this initiative, I ask that you please contact our Registrar, Mrs. Tara Irons at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I invite you to join me for the monthly Pastor / Principal Coffee on Friday, May 19th after the 9:00 am Mass, in the McGivney Room.
Saint Timothy Catholic School remains committed to providing our students with an individualized, supportive, faith based learning environment. I greatly appreciate your active support of our wonderful school.
As always I welcome your comments, questions and suggestions.
God Bless You,
Mr. Joseph M. McLaughlin
Congratulations to our 8th graders who made their Confirmation last Saturday. As is the annual STS tradition, the students celebrated Monday with a Confirmation brunch for our students and parents, and then attended the 8th Grade Saint Awards Ceremony! What a special ceremony!

May is Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month
May is a peak season for asthma and allergy sufferers, and a perfect time to educate your family, friends, and co-workers about these diseases.
Asthma affects more than 24.5 million Americans and 6 million children under the age of 18.
More than 50 million Americans have all types of allergies: pollen, skin, latex, food, environmental and more.
This week is dedicated to Food Allergy Awareness
Created in 1998 by the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (
Food Allergy Awareness Week is honored each May to shine a spotlight on the
seriousness of food allergies.
By increasing awareness, we can encourage respect, promote safety, and improve the quality of life for the 15 million Americans with food allergies, including all those at risk for life-threatening anaphylaxis.
Teal is the color to show your support for food allergies. So wear a teal ribbon or ask us about the teal pumpkin we have sitting on our desk in the school clinic.
Please join us in raising awareness for these common diseases.
Have a blessed week!
