A large enthusiastic crowd on a hot summer-like night saw heart-pounding racing and some special events Saturday May 12th. Besides the motorized mayhem, Hoosier Lottery Mother’s Day eve at the Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome powered by Lincoln Tech saw the official crowning of 2018 Speedrome Princess Alexa Boyd and a display of support for Peanut Allergy Awareness on the property.

The headlining race on the evening was the 16th Annual Phyllis Tunny Memorial 75-lap Figure 8 for the Brown’s Oil Service Late Models. Nick Moore’s unfortunate 2018 intersection luck with rookies continued this time meeting with Tommy St John. Teammates Donnie Murphy and Steve Durham looked strong early holding the point during most of the first half. 4 fast Tunny drivers worked into the mix near midway seeking another great result in their grandmother’s tribute. Ben Tunny would sneak past the challengers and take home the win. It was his record-tying 3rd Phyllis victory and 7th straight podium in this event. Jesse Tunny was second and Mark Tunny third.

The Adult Faskarts returned to action after a week off. Drake Stancil would take the win in preliminary race one while Kyle Norris hoisted checkers in the second heat. That pair then battled throughout the 25-lap feature. Kyle fended off the feisty assualt over several restarts to take his first main event victory of the season. It’s now 3 different winners in 3 feature races. Stancil was runner-up and now the new points leader. Dave Drinkard held off some tough customers for third place.

The USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series started off with an amazing qualifying session. Amazingly Cole Christy and Logan Hugler were a dead heat for fast time at 12.564 seconds with third quick Tommy Kouns barely behind at 12.565 seconds. Huggler was officially the quickest. Preliminary heat races were taken by Nathan Foster and Huggler. Kouns would survive four late restarts to score success in the 50-lap feature. Trey Osbourne was second and Colin Grissom third.
