The oldest event held at the Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome Powered by Lincoln Tech is set to take place this Saturday August 25th, the 1-Hour Figure 8. The Brown’s Oil Service Late Models will take center stage in this intense $2,000-to-win 60-minute intersection interaction. The evening also includes the Shelbyville Auto Parts Thundercars (with a $1,000 to win feature), the Last Chance Wrecker Factory Front Wheel Drives, and Adult Faskarts. It’s Shelbyville Auto Parts night at the races. Tickets are just $10. Seniors, veterans, military, and first responders are $8. Children ages 9 to 12 are $5 and free for those under 9. Racing starts at 7pm.
It will be a brotherly battle on Saturday. A scant 24 markers separate point leader and 3-time division champion Jesse “the Outlaw” Tunny from reigning class king Ben “T-Time” Tunny heading into Saturday’s finale. On the line is the honor of being the Brown’s Oil Service Late Model champion in this 40th series season and the $5,000 first place point fund check that goes along with it. There are 8 point-tying scenarios that are possible at the end of 1-Hour time limit with Ben holding all the tiebreakers. This will be one for the storybooks.
The 1-Hour Figure 8 will be held for the 42nd time Saturday making it the tracks oldest event. 9 Speedrome Hall of Fame drivers own career wins in this race. A stout field is expected to vie for the prestigious victory. Previous winners include: Jon Herndon (1977), Kenny St John (1978, 1979), Wayne Arnold (1980, 1985, 1986), Bill Frazer (1981, 1982), Mike St John (1983, 1987), Jim Fox (1984), Bill Tunny Jr (1988, 1996), Charlie Reed (1989, 1992), Duane Lee (1990, 1997), Bruce Tunny (1991, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006), Rodney Sizemore (1993), Jack Dossey Jr (1994, 1995, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2010), Rich Fenwick (1998), Bobby Douthitt (1999), Gary Bedell (2002), Curtis McMurtrey (2004), Mark Tunny (2009, 2012, 2016), Doug Greig (2011, 2014), Casey White (2013), and Ben Tunny (2015, 2017).
