  With the Maryland SoccerPlex
A weekly newsletter to keep you informed about EVERYTHING Turf at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
Welcome back to Turf Talk! This week we will recap the Mid-Atlantic Sports Turf Managers Association Field Day that was held at the SoccerPlex last Wednesday!
What is MASTMA?
Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) is a non-profit organization that provides men and women in the professional sports field management world education and practical knowledge in the art and science of sports field management. The goal of STMA and its members is to provide and maintain the safest playing surfaces possible. STMA is a useful and easily accessible resource for members in the sports industry that are looking for information on management practices for their fields and an opportunity to connect with others in their field.

The Mid-Atlantic Sports Turf Managers Association (MASTMA) is the chapter of the overall STMA made up of members that manage sports fields of schools, universities, parks and recreation departments, and fields used by professional teams throughout Maryland, Delaware, Washington D.C., and Northern Virginia. Our Director of Grounds, Ryan Bjorn, is the President of this STMA chapter. He planned a field day for the Mid-Atlantic chapter last Wednesday.
Field Day?
This wasn't your normal water-balloon-tossing field day. The organization invited multiple vendors such as Grassroots Initiative, and John Deere to help inform sports managers in the area of tools and resources available to further help maintain their playing fields. In addition to meeting vendors, MASTMA members were able to view the Maryland SoccerPlex's fields, discuss practices and common trends that are happening across the industry and take a tour of our GrassRoots Exhibit. Of the event, Ryan Bjorn commented, "To be able to provide and share knowledge with men and women in this industry is extremely beneficial for us. This event gives people in the industry the opportunity to talk through any issues we may see, find solutions to those issues, and just helps us continue to learn more about the sports field management industry as a whole."
