A NOTE FROM PASTOR WOOD: 125 YEARS
This week's Old Testament reading comes from the prophet Ezekiel.  He had been called by God during Judah's exile in Babylon to proclaim God's Word to the exiles in Babylon.  Many were lamenting what they felt was God's injustice in bringing judgment upon them for the sins of their fathers.  So they quoted the proverb, "The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge."  The Lord speaks through His prophet to demand an end to this kind of thinking.  Instead the prophet outlines a doctrine of individual responsibility and accountability.
Ezekiel challenges the exiles to recognize that their current predicament and suffering stem from their own unrighteous ways.  Yahweh says, "Is it not your ways that are unjust?"  God's people are challenged to stop blaming others for their plight and to recognize their own failures that account for God's judgement upon them ... LWML Sunday
The first Sunday in October is set aside for LWML Sunday.  Timothy Women in Mission is part of the Lutheran Women Missionary League (LWML).  Women gather with a purpose - to be in God's Word, to be in fellowship with one another and to participate in servant opportunities.  We invite all women to join us the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
Thank you for bringing your Mite Box offerings today.  Mites have funded tens of millions of dollars in mission grants since the organization's inception in 1942.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month
Let's celebrate our ministry team by thanking God for their dedication and commitment at Timothy Church!  Women in Mission would like you to sign up one day to pray for Pastor Rall, Pastor Wilson, Pastor Vo, DCE Mark Thompson, Vicar Cyril Loum and the call process on the calendar in the narthex.  Let the pastors and Mark know via e-mail or tell them in person how you prayed for them.  You can also ask them for special prayer requests.  Check out the prayer idea sheet on the easel. There is no greater way to support and encourage our pastors and DCE than uplifting them in prayer.

40 Days for Life Prayer Vigil on October 7th
In conjunction with Lutherans for Life, Timothy volunteers are needed to participate in a Prayer Vigil at Planned Parenthood on
Saturday, October 7th. Prayer Vigil volunteers are needed for one hour time slots between 7am and 1pm. Register your desired hour to pray through Cynthia Rice, who is coordinating Timothy's participation. Please contact Cynthia no later than October 1st with your name and desired time slot so registration forms can be completed. You may also sign up to volunteer on the sign-up sheet in the narthex. To reach Cynthia, please call or text her at 314-270-0230 or email her at [email protected].

Maker's Fall Fest
We are extending the VBS fun with Maker's Fall Fest.  Families are invited to an event filled with fun, crafts, and togetherness.  Please join us on Sunday October 29th from 12:30pm-2:30pm in the gym for this brand new event.  Families will check-in when they arrive and then rotate together through various stations around the gym.  Snacks will be available for both kids and adults.  Child participants will be limited to Pre-K through 6th grade.  Preregistration is encouraged for planning purposes.
In order to make our Maker's Fall Fest a success, we're looking for volunteers to help at the various stations.  Instructions and supplies will be provided for each station.  Volunteers will interact with the families and help the children with the activity at that station.  Volunteers will need to register at the link provided and can select which station to help out at.  Any help is appreciated.
Please contact Holly Feldman at [email protected] or 314-753-1577 with any questions.  Registration for participants and volunteers is available at:

24 Hour Prayer Vigil October 12, 2017
Psalm 90 says, "Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.....teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
The wisdom God has given us in Psalm 50 "Call upon Me in the day of trouble and I will rescue you."
In our City, Nation and World we have many troubling events and issues that need our prayers.
Pray that our leaders, present and future will be given wisdom to manage the days ahead.
1 Timothy 2:1-2, "I urge...that requests, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for everyone-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."
How this will work
*          We set aside 24 hours for our congregation to be in prayer.
*          We will open the church from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday October 12th.
*          We ask that you sign up for a prayer slot.
*          Then come to church at that time and pray.
*          The other times to complete the 24 hours can be done at home.  But we want you to sign up for a time so we know each hour of the day is covered.
The Christ candle will be lit reminding us Christ is still the Light of this world.  There will be devotional suggestions and materials. The side door to the church on the Ivanhoe side will be unlocked.  You can invite others to participate.

Lesson 5 Bible Story -Elijah ls Taken to Heaven - 2 Kings 2:1-15
Today in Sunday School, we study "Elijah Is Taken to Heaven."
Elijah, like Enoch before him, was taken into heaven alive. Jesus, who is our great Elijah, ascended alive into heaven for us and our salvation. You might discuss, "Why was Elisha concerned about Elijah's departure from earth? In what way was Jesus' ascension into heaven different from Elijah's?"
Memory Verse: Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Colossians 3:2
