Cygnus, New From Rockport Technologies

The newest speaker from Rockport is the just introduced Cygnus. This model will be available in the second quarter of 2015 at $62,500. We have just heard it at the dCS suite associated with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It is amazing and another great value from designer Andrew Payor. We have Cygnus on order, a pair for demo and a pair for sale.

It is an Avior on steroids. The same Beryllium tweeter is utilized as in all other current Rockport speakers but this time utilized in a shallow wave guide to extend its response downward and couple better with the upper range of the midrange driver. The two 9" Avior woofer drivers are replaced by two 10" drivers of similar design but with much larger motors. These woofer drivers give the Cygnus woofers 50% more surface area for great slam and higher levels. The bass range is extended as well.

The cabinet is quieter with a complex front baffle utilizing a sandwich of two 3/4" aluminum plates with elasto damping between them. This is backed by a three layer constrained layer damped MDF construction. This enclosure is quieter than the Avior and Atria and is designed to stand up to the capability of the larger woofer drivers. The Cygnus is almost as tall as the Altair but not quite as wide and 10" less deep. The base is not wider than the Avior and is constrained to be the same width as the cabinet.
It is an amazing speaker and an amazing value. We look forward to having you hear it in our own space in June.

Avantgarde ZERO 1

We have the new Avantgarde Zero 1 speakers in our front room. They are simply amazing. Horns done the way horns should be done. Each cabinet includes two horns, one for midrange and one highs and a woofer. Each driver has its own amplifier. The crossover is in the digital domain. Time delay aligns the three drivers in time, and equalization is employed to smooth the response. They will play at very high levels. They fill our large front room with sound. We have them driven by the Aria mini server.

Very clean installation, one digital cable from the server to one speaker, wireless or wired between speakers, power and you're done. The narrow dispersion of the horns makes them less susceptible to room variations than most speakers. For their size, they produce a lot of sound. Each speaker is only 41" tall, 12.5" wide and 9.3" deep. There are two versions, which differ only by software starting at $15,000 a pair. Considering the included amplification and lack of a lot of cables, they are a bargain.

Aria Music Server

The Aria Mini is a just that, a more compact and affordable version of Aria's higher performance server. However, this doesn't mean it is any less appealing. It can be a dedicated music server or a complete digital source in your system. The Mini includes a DAC supporting PCM music files up to 32 bits and 384 kHz (DXD), and DSD 64/128 and contains internal storage up to 2 TB and the option of external storage beyond that. The Aria Mini is shown below with an i-Pad, for which it provides a holder.

The great looking iaria app revolutionizes the way you search through your music with extremely detailed metadata retrieval. You have the ability to specify by artist, genre, period, instrument, style, composer, sample rate, conductor, orchestra, soloists, label, or rating. The iaria app automatically detects the aria server and selects it with no network hassles, provides playlists storage in the aria server, imports music and libraries from external hard drives and NAS drives, allows audio streaming to the iPad for listening to aria's music library on headphones, and can stream music to any Airplay device.

The Aria Mini ($3,800) is currently set up with the Avantgarde ZERO 1 speakers in our front room and is ready for audition at any time.

Naim Mu-so

Naim continues to impress us with their new Mu-so wireless streamer one box solution. It is truly hard to believe. Stop in and give it a listen! It works with all streaming sources and can work with your TV. Place it on a table under your TV for the best sound bar you've ever heard. Beyond the quality of sound, the facilities and ease of use make the Mu-so even more appealing.

This amazing, chic, svelte unit says class and sounds great from any source. 450 watts, six internal amplifiers, and six speakers get the job done. This elegant polished aluminum work of art is 25" long, only 5" high and 10" deep. All connections are underneath at the back, making for a very clean look.

Its advanced yet simple to use connectivity includes AirPlay, UPnP? streaming, Spotify Connect, Bluetooth (aptX), iRadio, i-Pad and Android app control and multi-room capability. There is even a discrete USB input on the side for a memory stick full of your favorite music or music from a friend. The Naim control app for iPad, iPhone, iPod and Android devices puts a world of music at your fingertips.

For only $1,499, it is truly a great value. Mu-so is on demo and in stock. It is easy to set up. We can do it for you or if you want to do it yourself, just call us and we can guide you through it. We can ship it to you for free, wherever you live in the U.S.
