MRIs of Great Danes:
An Article in Review
By Megan C. Davis, DVM

The Article: Magnetic resonance imaging features of Great Danes with and without clinical signs of cervical spondylomyelopathy Paula Martin-Vaquero, DMV, PhD, and Ronaldo C. da Costa, DMV, PhD JAVMA, Vol 245, No 4, August 15, 2014

Given the highly sensitive nature of MRI in evaluating the spinal cord and vertebral canal stenosis, potential for over- interpretation of the study can occur. For this reason, it is important to understand the frequency and variation of "normal" that can be seen on a clinically asymptomatic patient.  Few veterinary studies have been conducted on MRI findings of clinically normal dogs.  MORE>>

Meet Our New Staff Member

Michele joined VNoC's administrative staff as a Client Specialist in July. A native of Pasadena, Maryland, Michele says, "I've been and out of the emergency clinic here with my animals, so I was familiar with VNoC. When I learned about the opening, I jumped at the chance to work here."

While Michele previously worked in the medical field and in the automotive business, she's not worried about the move to veterinary care. "I'm like a sponge. I love to learn. I'm passionate about what I do-and I was gifted with the caring gene. Even though I've only been here a short time, I already feel like I've known everyone at VNoC forever. I'm excited that suggestions are welcome; I know I can make a difference here."

A lifelong animal lover, Michele and her roommate have two dogs, a turtle, a bird and three silky chickens. "I pet-sit for friends and I've even fostered a pig!"

Fall RVT Conference a Success!

On October 18th, we had a successful RVT Conference. We had more than 110 veterinary technicians attend our six hour conference at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Reisterstown.

Technicians enjoyed a great lunch and topics that included "Assisting Ophthalmologic Exams and Procedures," "CPR Review and Preparation," "Post-op Nutritional Support," "Brain Tumors in Companion Animals," "Liver Disease," "Dental Disease" and "Medications for Cardiac Disease." Overall, we had seven talks over six hours and the techs truly enjoyed it.
