June 10, 2013

Dear Girl Scout Family,

Do you remember attending Day Camp when you were young? I fondly remember making "nature" art projects, playing active games, and connecting with kids I hadn't seen since the last day of school (& making new friends!).

We're nearing the Day Camp season for Girl Scouts. Volunteers and parents come together to plan Girl Scout Day Camps in the summer, with the support of our council staff. Please take a moment to view our upcoming Day Camps and consider signing up your daughter and even getting involved yourself! Your daughter might even want to bring a cousin or special friend -- we welcome all girls to join us!

I can't resist sharing one of my Day Camp nature craft. It was called Cat's Eye, though I've also seen them called
God's Eye, too. You take two equal size sticks from the ground and hold them together in the shape of an X. Wind rows of yarn around the stick then to the next, forming a spider web (only the yarn is close together). I faintly remember making oodles of Cat's Eyes that summer and giving them as gifts.

Help pass on the fun outdoor traditions of Girl Scouting to your girl this summer by encouraging her to attend camp!

p.s. Has your Girl Scout re-registered for next year yet? Just for participating, girls can receive: 4 Minnesota Twins tickets, $5 coupon for programs, a FREE camp t-shirt, and a special commemorative patch! Visit the Jump Start page in the Join Us section of the Lakes and Pines website for details.
