The Texas Oral Health Coalition (TxOHC) is proud to announce, "Help Beat the Heat" TxOHC's newly established annual fundraising program beginning July 17th through August 15th.  Join the fun by beating the current Fahrenheit temperature with your donation amount.  Visit the donation page on our website and locate the widget to find out your current temperature to help beat the heat.

Donations made will help sustain the infrastructure of our worthy organization by funding the day to day operations and pay the salaries of our staff members.  Currently, we have a part-time website maintenance manager and we are pleased to announce the recent addition of our grant writer, Josefine Wolfe, MSPH, RDH, CHES from San Antonio.  Eventually, our goal is to hire an Executive Director and have an office in Austin once funding is secured from outside sources.

Advocacy and communications require resources and policy change may be essential to increase access and provide oral health care for underserved populations.  Meetings require funding and it is vital that our volunteer members and stakeholders have the opportunity to collaborate to create innovative and viable solutions to improve the oral health for all Texans.

Donations will help support these coalition activities:

  • Legislative and community advocacy
  • Regular news updates
  • Opportunities for networking
  • Educational opportunities
  • Opportunities to participate in coalition committees and work groups

Your contribution is essential to our continued efforts and will make a real difference in the lives of thousands of your neighbors.  If you do not wish to play "Help Beat the Heat," please consider making a donation at one of the levels outlined below.

TxOHC Welcomes New Secretary

The Texas Oral Health Coalition (TxOHC) is pleased to announce Pamela J. Myers, RDH will be stepping in as the Coalition's Secretary for the remainder of the 2014 term effective July 1st.

Dr. Angela Barnes Filzen, DDS, resigned in June due to health challenges and an increase in work related duties, so it became necessary to appoint a new Secretary.  Thank you for your previous service Dr. Filzen and we look forward to your participation as you are able.

TxOHC is extremely fortunate to have someone of Ms. Myers' caliber join the Board of Directors.  Pam has authored numerous publications, is a well known speaker and was honored the RDH Mentor of the Year award in 2010 by RDH Magazine and Philips Sonicare.  She has practiced dental hygiene clinically for the past 40 years and has been Manager of the Dental Hygiene Program for the University of Texas Medical Branch-Correctional Managed Care since 1995.

Thank you Pam and welcome to the Board.

Landslide Victory for Fluoridation!

The people of the United States have spoken and they support community water fluoridation as a proven public health strategy to reduce dental cavities.

Oral health advocates across the nation found their voice and spread the word about the water fluoridation debate and poll highlighted in the June 2014 issue of the Costco Connection member magazine.  Results from this poll released in July show overwhelming support for community water fluoridation.

YES     65%                            NO      35%
Percentage reflects votes received by June 18, 2014. Results may reflect debate being picked up by blogs.
fyi - Costco did not report the total number of votes received.

It is truly inspiring to know the power of an activated oral health network and what can be accomplished.

Thank you to all that voted in the Costco fluoridation poll, forwarded the request to others and/or wrote letters in support of community water fluoridation to the editor.  Your advocacy efforts were successful!
