Rocky mountain blues
It might not be everyone's idea of a good time, but if you want to know how a Type 1 diabetic handles blood testing and insulin  injecting when more than half way up a pretty big mountain, see the MY DIABETES KIT feature on p.14. Jerry Gore shows us how it's done, frozen fingers and all!

There's plenty of NEWS to catch up on, with Novo Nordisk making a large investment into a research collaboration with Oxford University worth over £115m including a dedicated new building in which to do the research. Meanwhile, a new study on liraglutide (Novo Nordisk's brandname Victoza) shows it can prevent the development of Type 2 diabetes.

We take a good look at a cookbook called Grains as Mains in MAKING CARBS COUNT on page 22. I particularly enjoy the names of some of them. I've mastered pronouncing quinoa, but remain amused by teff and freekah. When the going gets teff anyone? Freekah out? Showing my age now!
