U7-U10 Youth Development

Kings Hammer Soccer Club (KHSC) rolled out new curriculum and structure for the U7-U10 program today. After months of studying the format changes outlined by US Youth Soccer as well as gathering feedback from individual coaches throughout the club, KHSC is excited to weave indoor futsal training and futsal leagues into the curriculum for its players with birth years of 2007-2010. These changes will take place beginning with the Fall 2016 season.

"Moving with the ball on a consistent flat surface allows the young player to build confidence," Women's Executive Director, Tiffany Roberts, explains. "Futsal training provides that opportunity in an environment where experimentation with different moves is highly encouraged."

The futsal training will be offered to all players in addition to regular outdoor training on grass or turf. Kevin McCloskey, Men's Executive Director, explains why both are important. "When we're working on a hard surface with futsal, we're growing the creativity of the player. When we work on grass, we're learning how to use those skills in a team environment. Both are key to developing strong players."

KHSC recognizes that many players at this age level are involved in other sports and activities, KHSC is structuring the additional training and leagues to be flexible for parents. Shawn Parker, KHSC Youth Director continues,"The last thing we want is for our youngest players to train or play too much. Futsal training will replace one of the weekly practice times every other week. We will also roster plenty of kids on each futsal league team to allow for flexibility with schedule conflicts."
