UTAH ASPHALT PAVEMENT ASSOCIATON NEWSLETTER

Executive Director's Message:

Rain, Rain, Go Away (not really)

Despite the consistent rain showers each and every day, the month of May has proven to be a very busy time of year for the Utah Asphalt Pavement Association (UAPA).  And after the winter (or lack thereof) we had, the recent rain showers are certainly welcome, but it has made for an interesting start to the construction season nonetheless.  Regardless, rain or no rain, May has flown by; here are a few things the association worked on or was a part of this month:

We are gathering signatures through Change.org to deliver to Congress. Sign your name and tell Congress to get to work.

Federal funding for roads, bridges, and transit is set to go over a fiscal cliff this summer. The Highway Trust Fund spends over $40 billion annually to repair and modernize roads, bridges, and transit systems in every state across the country. This revenue comes from a motor fuels user fee that has not been raised since 1993. Simply, we are trying to fund a 2015 transportation system on 1993 dollars. Given this untenable formula, when the Fund finally becomes insolvent, there will be no new highway and transit investment if Congress fails to act. Read More
