The CW Developing ‘Blowback’ Thriller Drama From Justin Lin and Others
From Deadline:

The CW  is developing  Blowback,  a thriller drama project executive produced by  Star Trek: Beyond  director  Justin Lin ('95) . The project, written/executive produced by  Killer Women  creator  Hannah Shakespeare  and also executive produced by  Michael Eisner a nd Tariq Jalil, was originally sold as a spec to the CW late last season, coming close to a pilot order. I hear  Blowback  is now getting a boost with an order for two additional scripts by Shakespeare and a bible. The scripts have been commissioned by Warner Bros. TV, the studio behind the project, described as  Gone Girl  meets Bourne.  It could be a limited series.

Wraps This Month

TFT Alumna Summera Howell is starring in the indie drama "Blue Line Station", directed by Mexican Academy Award Winner Jorge Xolalpa Jr. The film also stars Telenovella star Raquenel and Leo B. Ramsay. Production wraps this month.

2016 Princess Grace Award Winners Announced
Congratulations to Christopher Scott Murillo (07), who won the Pierre Cardin Award, 
Playwrights'  Arena, Theater Fellowship, and to Camille A. Brown ('00), a past Princess Grace Award winner, who won this year's Choreography Mentorship Co-Commission Award and a Statue Award for Black Girl: Linguistic Play.

We have just released our 11th annual fundraiser calendar for nonprofit org, Pin-Ups For Vets. I founded the org two years after graduating from UCLA. Pin-Ups For Vets has supported the military & Veteran community for 11 years now.

  Coaches' Wives Documentary to Be Distributed in September
Jonathan Moore (MFA. '03), is an associate professor of Cinema Arts at Vanguard University in Orange County. Moore's recent feature documentary film, "Coaches' Wives," was picked up by a distributor and is slated for a September release. He is currently in pre-production on a new documentary film about African-American entertainers in segregated Las Vegas.

I Love You Because at The Hudson Backstage
TFT alumna Rebecca Kenigsberg ('12) directs an After Hours Theatre Company production of I LOVE YOU BECAUSE at Hudson Backstage Theatre in Hollywood.

This contemporary musical comedy is a modern twist on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Set in New York City, it centers around a young, uptight greeting card writer whose life is changed when he meets a flighty photographer. Along with their eccentric friends and siblings, they learn to love each other not in spite of their faults, but because of them. I LOVE YOU BECAUSE was presented at the National Alliance for Musical Theatre Festival of New Musicals in 2005.

I LOVE YOU BECAUSE opened on Friday, July 22 and will run through Sunday, August 7 at the Hudson Backstage, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.

Costume Designer Wanted

Costume Designer needed for a production of In the Heights at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts at Hamilton High School in Los Angeles

We are looking for a costume designer to design, produce and run the costumes for our production of In the Heights. The show is in February of 2017. We have a cast of 45. There is no teaching involved in this position. The person would only be required to design, produce, and run the costumes for the show. Parent and student volunteers will be available to assist as needed in the production and running of the show.

This is a paid position and there is a budget available to assist in what is required to produce the costumes. If you are interested please forward your resume to Gail Chorna at gail.chorna@lausd.net. Specifics in regards to salary and budget will be addressed during the interview process. 

Assistant Editor (Theatrical)

Job Description: Steele Spring Stage Rights, one of the foremost boutique theatrical publishers in the United States, is seeking to fill the Assistant Editor position in their Los Angeles office. Responsibilities include collecting, generating, formatting, and maintaining production materials (scripts, scores, and media). The ideal candidate will be a detail oriented, organized planner with the ability to respond effectively and efficiently while maintaining flexibility. The demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize is essential. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and possess superlative proofreading skills. Knowledge of music preparation and the ability to read music is preferred. Reliable transportation is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect, generate, format, and maintain all production materials (scripts, scores, media)
  • Work closely with playwrights in creating high quality materials packages for their titles
  • Manage and Organize all media (audio, video, photos)

Qualifications:

  • Interest and general knowledge of theater and the theatrical community

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize

•  Experience with community management across multiple social platforms, with solid skills using analytics and reporting tools

•  Exceptional writing, storytelling, copy-editing and proofreading skills (writing for a personal voice a plus)
•  Customer-service minded, solving problems on your own and knowing when to escalate questions or issues
