March 5, 2016 - 7:30 pm
Arthur Dong, Sophia Ngor, Jack Ong.

The Killing Fields of Dr. Haing S. Ngor  (2015)

Filmmaker Arthur Dong's new documentary sheds light on the extraordinary life of Cambodian physician Haing S. Ngor, who survived years of torture in Khmer Rouge labor camps and rose to Hollywood fame as an Oscar-winning actor in The Killing Fields (1984), ultimately to be gunned down outside his home in Los Angeles' Chinatown.  Dong's moving and penetrating film, ingeniously employing animation, music and elliptical editing, powerfully evokes this heroic and enigmatic "face of Cambodia," who worked tirelessly to bring healing and justice to his country.

DCP, color, 87 min.  Production: Deep Focus Productions, Inc.  Producer: Arthur Dong.  Director: Arthur Dong.  Screenwriter: Arthur Dong.  Cinematographer: Arthur Dong.  Editor: Arthur Dong.  Composer: Mark Adler.

WGF Veterans Writing Project
Applications are now being accepted for the Writer's Guild Foundation's Veterans Writing Project...

"It’s the only program of its kind. We pair military vets who have a penchant for wordsmithing with a collection of WGA-enrolled film and television writers. Those writers mentor the vets in two phases: A weekend-long retreat, and a series of regular meetings throughout the following year.

Our vets arrive ready to work hard and get things done. And our mentors represent some of the most beloved movies and television series of the past 30 years."

Applications are now open for the May 2016 session of the Veterans Writing Project retreat. Click HERE to download the application. Deadline to submit applications is Monday, March 28, 2016 at 5pm PST. Late applications will not be accepted.

TFT BEN East presents:
Audition Psych 101 Workshop with Michael Kostroff (The Wire)
Audition Psych 101 is a four-hour workshop for actors that deals with the mental side of the audition process. It’s mostly a lecture/conversation, focusing exclusively on the way we think about this weird show-business ritual, and how we can approach it better.

During the session, we deconstruct the ideas that make us feel scared, nervous, insecure, discouraged, and unworthy, explode some of our strange, illogical actor mythologies, and consider fresh ideas and practicable techniques for making auditions much more enjoyable and much more successful.

Here’s why it’s effective: Audition Psych 101 isn’t based on any sort of magical positive thinking, new-age philosophy, or spiritual beliefs. The ideas all come from solid, provable realities, professional experiences, and good old-fashioned logic. It’s the stuff you know in your gut, brought back into focus.

The atmosphere is casual and encouraging and there’s typically a lot of laughing.

WHEN: Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM (EST)
WHERE: 244 W. 54th St.,12th Floor New York, NY 10019

From now until Sunday, February 14th tickets are specially priced at $10
February 15th to March 5th tickets are $13
Tickets are $15 at the door.
Tickets are available at  http://auditionpsych101.eventbrite.com

Editor Wanted for Two Projects

I'm a director looking for an LA based editor for two projects:

The first is to work ASAP on a comedic short/s. I'd ideally like to start working with an editor the w/c 15 Feb. It's a fun script, strong DP and sound man, plus the actors involved are great (Eric Ramey - Ray Donovan, House of Lies; Nick Maccarone - Law & Order SVU). For a small fee; mainly for credits/experience.

The second project is more continuous editing work for a very new start-up agency I'm working with. We are building e-businesses for various clients, including a set of yoga videos to shoot later this month, which will involve 2-3 days of editing. The other project is taking an existing set of videos and cutting them for an online learning platform. We are also currently considering setting up a YouTube video production service for clients. There's lots of room to grow in the position.

If you are interested, please email me at annagjones@gmail.com and provide a quote for your work on either/both projects.
