Alumnus Co-writing '80s NY Drama "Pose" for FX with Ryan Murphy

From Deadline:

"EXCLUSIVERyan Murphy helped put FX on the original drama series map with Nip/Tuck. He then reinvigorated the anthology series genre, turning FX into a limited series powerhouse with American Horror Story, American Crime Story and Feud. Now Murphy is returning to the ongoing cable drama series format with FX’s Pose, which he will produce with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. It is slated for a 2018 premiere.

Written by Murphy, frequent collaborator Brad Falchuk (AHS, ACS, Glee) and Steven Canals (MFA '15), an up-and-coming writer discovered by Murphy, Pose has gotten the go-ahead from FX for an October production start in New York, with Murphy directing the first episode as he does on all of his series."

"Marian" Spec Script Sells to Sony with Margot Robbie Attached to Star
From Deadline

"EXCLUSIVE: It garnered a lot of interest, but when the dust cleared it was Sony that nailed the project for producers Donald De Line (UCLA '80, TFT Executive Board Member) and Amy Pascal by pre-empting the spec Marian for actress Margot Robbie to star. A nice role for Robbie to show some more of her acting chops, this time in a serious and truly gritty turn. Think Braveheart meets Game of Thrones. Robbie’s label LuckyChap Entertainment is also producing, with Rock Shaink, through his Romark Entertainment.

Scripted by newcomer Pete Barry, Marian is based on the character from the Robin Hood folklore. Here’s the storyline: After a conspiracy to conquer England in which the love of her life Robin Hood dies before her eyes, Marian picks up the cause to lead her people into a pivotal war. She comes to power, charging into a battle that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom but will see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself."

Writer Pete Barry is represented by manager Andrea Dimity (TFT Professional Programs '06) of Pannon Entertainment.

Alumnus-Penned Script Acquired by Amazon Studios
From Deadline:

"EXCLUSIVE: Amazon Studios has acquired Victoria Woodhull, with Oscar-winning Room star Brie Larson poised to produce, and play the first female candidate for the presidency of the United States. Amazon bought it in a pitch package deal. Ben Kopit (MFA '13), who wrote the Warner Bros film Libertine that has Brett Ratner attached to direct, will write the script. Larson will produce alongside Whalerock Industries’ Lloyd Braun and Andrew Mittman. Anne Woodward is exec producer and Whalerock’s John-Eric Capps is co-producer.

Woodhull was a suffragist who became the first woman to run and be nominated for President of the United States in 1872, more than 40 years before women had the right to vote. She was a women’s liberator, non-conformist, conniver, narcissist, politician, and rebel. Her con-artist father taught her and her sisters to channel spirits in front of crowds to bilk the superstitious. These skills formed the start for an ambitious climb that would bring Woodhull from rags to riches and back again. Amazon’s Julie Rappaport and Jules Claassen are overseeing with Capps.

Larson, Kopit and Whalerock are repped by WME. Larson’s managed by Authentic Talent and Literary Management, Kopit by Mindframe Films & Management."
