Dan McLaughlin, Founder of the
TFT M.F.A. Animation Program, Dies at 83
Dan McLaughlin (left)  with 'The Simpsons' animation director Chuck Sheetz in 2011.

Dear TFT Community,

With great sadness, I wanted to let you know that our beloved colleague, Dan McLaughlin, the former Area Head of our esteemed TFT Animation Workshop, passed away on Tuesday of this week, March 15, 2016. While we do not currently have the details about the cause of his passing, our current Area Head of Animation, Professor Celia Mercer, has been in touch with Dan's family and details will follow regarding a memorial celebration of Dan's life.

Dan was a legendary figure at TFT and was very loved, respected and admired by our students, faculty, staff and great animation alumni. Even in retirement from TFT, he was always available to mentor and advise our students, and give help and support to our faculty and staff. It was great to see Dan at our many events including the Animation Prom Night where you could see him enthusiastically supporting and cheering for our amazing animation students.

Dan represented the very finest traditions of excellence that have underscored TFT's grand history. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Please join me in sending our deepest condolences to Dan's family and loved ones, along with sending our utmost gratitude for his years of outstanding service, great teaching and inspiration.

Warmest regards,

Teri
