Happy MLK Day working people! Tommy Presita and Mike Kroski (pictured) of the Communications Workers of American 1109 Brooklynsaved the life of a boy who fell in a manhole, so we'll give both these heroes a call. The National ALF-CIO just launched an awesome video about raising the minimum wage, so we'll play that for you. Plus the CWA's Larry Cohen spoke before the US Senate Finance Committee on why the Trans-Pacific Partnership will destroy America, we've got that audio. Donny Dunn has the details on why we need to mobilize on Long Guy Land in Brookhaven to get FiOS plus the UCOMM News Network, the Red Hot Albany Minute and the UCOMM Radio Sports Report with Dennis Dunn! Also Gotcha Paul the intern produced his first commercial about MLK day and Congrats to the 38 Special ticket winners. See you Sunday morning!

We like what you're rockin' Tune in this Sunday for the story behind the story of why "Good Fight" Mike is sporting this UFCW 1500 winter hat.

Another reason to hate Walmart. Walmart's anti-union policies leaked this week, it shows how the jerks at Walmart train it's upper management to discourage any kind of union organizing. "We believe that our associates can speak for and represent themselves without having to pay someone to do that for them. We simply don't feel third party is right for Walmart." We've got the leaked doc here and many thanks to future UCOMM Summer Intern Dan Attner for finding this.

The TPP Sucks. The NYS AFL-CIO is working with community partners for a statewide week of action to tell Congressional representatives to oppose any Fast Track authority for trade deals, specifically the Trans Pacific Partnership, aka "NAFTA on steroids." NAFTA caused over 682,900 job losses. The "Fast Track" authority would bypass the authority of Congress to legislate by allowing up or down votes on trade deals without knowing the full details or being able to make amendments. It continues the secret dirty back room politics that have been the backbone of the TPP negotiations. These dirty meetings have yet to be released to the public even though over 600 evil corporations have been involved in writing it. Events are being planned across the Empire State so visit their website to get involved. NAFTA fooled us once, shame on them. If the TPP passes, shame on us!

Join us on MLK Day. "Somewhere I read of the freedom of assembly. Somewhere I read of the freedom of speech. Somewhere I read of the freedom of press. Somewhere I read that the greatness of America is the right to protest-for rights. We aren't going to let dogs or water hoses turn us around. We aren't going to let any injunction turn us around. We are going on." Join us on Monday, MLK Day at the House of Justice, 106 W 145th St in NYC at noon to put Dr. King's words into action as we demand justice for exploited workers who fighting to attain their American Dream. See you there!

They saved the show! UCOMM Radio is happy and excited to announce that IBEW Local 25, Long Island's Finest Electricians, is a new sponsor of the show. As usual, we have money problems, FM radio is expensive and Local 25's support came in just in time to keep the show alive. Many thanks to Business Manager Kevin Harvey and the entire union leadership at Local 25 for coming through.

Not just a job, but a career!
Congrats to Reginald Excellent, a Hempstead, NY resident and recent graduate of the General Building & Constructions Laborers Local 66 Apprenticeship Program. A big Renaissance Downtown Urban America (RDUA) project is coming up and the union went ahead to ensure that people from the local community get the opportunity to work the project. "It's the right thing to do and we are always looking for motivated and talented workers to join our ranks," says Steve Flanagan, Business Manager of Local 66.
