A Message from TIP
It is my pleasure to share with you our first edition of the TIP Newsletter, which highlights key developments in TIP and UConn Research and significant achievements by our Portfolio companies.
I would like to take this opportunity to announce new leadership for UConn Research, Dr. Radenka Maric, who has been appointed Vice President for Research for UConn
.

We had an exciting and productive kick-off meeting in July with our
Venture and Incubation Advisory Board
, which is comprised of business, investment leaders, along with entrepreneurs with strong success records. We are quite fortunate to have such a high quality and engaged board that has already been involved with a number of UConn and TIP companies and innovators. Sector diversity of the board is also a critical component to assure that TIP will provide a comprehensive and inclusive environment to support innovators across all UConn Research programs.
In May, we kicked off our “UConn Innovation and Investment Series,” with an event featuring Canaan Partners (which recently raised a new
$800M fund
for early stage biotechs) and showcased three outstanding TIP companies,
BioArray Genetics
,
Biorasis
, and
CaroGen
. Mark your calendars for our next UConn Innovation and Investment event, to be held in Farmington on October 10 with
Agent Capital
. Keep an eye out for future events to be held on the Storrs campus as well.
We have been quite fortunate to have strong engagement by CT legislators with their continued support of UConn efforts.
It is exciting to see that so far in 2017, our TIP companies h
ave raised a total of $30.4M in capital, including
$24M equity and debt financing, more than $2M in grants, including several SBIR awards and
$3.4M of revenue
. For our fiscal year ending June 30, 2017, the total capital raised was more than $51.9M.
Our summer was capped by an outstanding cohort of summer fellows, and I strongly recommend reading the related piece in this newsletter.
Thank you for being a part of the TIP community. We're looking forward to continuing to grow the program and support innovators and entrepreneurs seeking to improve the quality of life and economic development in Connecticut.
