In-Pavement Systems Evaluated to Detect Availability of Parking for Commercial Trucks at Rest Areas


Dr. Scott Washburn served as the principal investigator for a recently completed Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) grant-funded project, which tested three different in-pavement systems (SensIT, Sensys and CivicSmart). These systems detect the presence of vehicles in commercial truck parking spaces at interstate rest stops.  Read more

UFTI Researchers Create a Decision Support System for Assigning Safety Service Patrols to a Roadway


Dr. Siva Srinivasan led a project funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) that worked on  creating a decision- support system that will assist managers  in deciding if a roadway "warrants" the addition of Safety Service Patrol (SSP). Read more

Who would have ever thought that mussels have anything to do with transportation? For one doctoral student in environmental engineering, studying how these bivalves help to maintain healthy coastal wetlands and waterways could have implications for the boat and shipping industry.  Read more
UF Gatorloop Team Participates in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition
 
Last month, the UF Ga torloop team concluded
their run in  the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod competition.  The  Hyperloop challenge was  created by Elon Mustk, founder of  SpaceX and Tesla, to revolutionize transportation. Read more

WTS Central Florida Chapter Scholarships Available, Apply Now!


The Women in Transportation Central Florida chapter invites all aspiring women studying transportation-related fields to apply to one of three scholarships: the Frankee Hellinger Leadership Undergraduate Scholarship, the Frankee Hellinger Undergraduate Scholarship, or the Frankee Hellinger Graduate Scholarship.
