New NCHRP 15-57 Project, Led by UF, Will Develop New Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) Methods for Systems Analysis

WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff Awards UFTI Graduate Student a Leadership Scholarship


Deja Jackson is a Ph.D. student working with Dr. Siva Srinivasan at the UFTI, was recently awarded the WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff Women in Leadership Scholarship. The award was presented to her during the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) at the 45th National Meeting & Training Conference in Dallas, TX, July 8-12, 2016. The scholarship was created to honor Tracey Bessellieu who was the former vice president and director of talent at Parsons Brinckerhoff for her leadership in the transportation industry.  [Read more]

Society of Women Engineers Selects UFTI Graduate Student to Attend Academic Leadership Program

   
Ria Kontou has done it once again.  Last month we reported that Kontou was selected for the Future Industry Spotlight Award by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). This month, we are reporting that she has been accepted to attend the Academic Leadership for Women in Engineering (ALWE) hosted by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), which also includes a travel grant to attend the program. UFTI Co-Hosts an Open House for UF's Driving Simulator
 
The University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI) co-hosted an event on October 28, 2016, to showcase its newly upgraded driving simulator.  Faculty, students and staff from various colleges at UF were invited to attend.  Small groups of about five people at any one time were treated to a demonstration of the full-car simulator and some even volunteered to try it out [Read more] 

The Old Florida Heritage Highway Symposium Produces Thoughtful Discussions on Transportation and the Environment
 
The Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) hosted its annual Transportation Symposium on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Reitz Union on the UF Campus. The event focused on the Old Florida Heritage Highway, a corridor running along US 441 in North Central Florida, which incorporates elements of carefully managed transportation engineering, planning and wildlife conservation ecology.  Kathleen Pagan, a planner with Alachua County was one of the panelists invited to speak on this subject... Traffic Engineering Fundamentals Course to be Offered for Engineering and Planning Professionals
 
The UFTI's McTrans and T2 Centers are partnering to present a Traffic Engineering Fundamentals training course for engineering and planning professionals who regularly interface with traffic engineering or are new to the discipline. The course can also be useful to introduce traffic engineers to other subjects within the profession. The course is intended to introduce several traffic engineering topics with practical applications for each. It will include both lecture and computer demonstrations. Florida LTAP Listening Sessions: A Report from the Director

   
This past summer, the Florida Transportation Technology Transfer (T2) Center at the University of Florida's Transportation Institute (UFTI) conducted a series of listening sessions under the Florida Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP). The listening sessions provided an opportunity for LTAP staff at the T2 Center to receive input from local and regional agencies about their transportation-related training, technical assistance, data collection and equipment loan needs.
