Fresno County Public Library Receives $15,000 Grant to Support Rough Fire Recovery Efforts
In July 2015, a lightning strike in Fresno County, California, sparked a wildfire in the region that burned 151,000 acres of land. To help residents rebuild and recover from the devastating Rough Fire, California State Library has awarded Fresno County Public Library with a $15,000 collection development grant. The grant funding helps position the Library as a valuable asset and support system in times of crisis. The funding will allow the Library to purchase additional resources and materials to help patrons find government services, file damage claims and deal with other disaster-related issues.

Santa Monica Public Library Celebrates 125th Anniversary
On January 9,
Santa Monica Public Library (SMPL) will mark its 125th anniversary with a daylong celebration at its Main Library. Though the official anniversary occurred in early December, the celebration will take place on Saturday in honor of the 10th anniversary of SMPL's current Main Library building. The celebration highlights the impressive evolution of the Library from a single city librarian managing a collection of 800 books in two rooms of a local bank building to a high-tech system of five locations with over 400,000 volumes in its collection.
The celebration will include a broad range of fun activities for community members of all ages, from children's music concerts to a tour of the library's historic murals and a discussion with bestselling author Robert Crais. Festivities will also include interactive arts and crafts activities, as well as a scavenger hunt game for teens and adults.
