Fort Worth Library Showcased at National Summer Learning Association Annual Conference
Susan Benton, ULC's President and CEO, moderated a discussion with Library Director Gleniece Robinson and Fort Worth City Council Member Kelly Allen Gray at the NSLA Annual Conference. The session, attended by over 50 library, school and community partners for summer learning, showcased libraries as education partners. The participants shared the strategic thinking, community need and partnerships that led to the creation of Fort Worth Library's year-long, community-wide reading program, WorthReading #365. Council Member Gray shared the critical importance of city-library leaders working together. Library Director Robinson noted that libraries must tell their stories and not wait for anyone to invite them to the table.
Net Neutrality in the Press
The Los Angeles Times' and The Washington Post's editorial pages recently weighed in on net neutrality. The Post editorial states: "Mr. Wheeler has taken a lot of flak, but he is right to seek a balance. The goal is to bar unreasonable behavior without discouraging investment in ever-more-robust networks." The Los Angeles Times applauds the FCC for slowing down the process while it builds a defensible position.
E-rate Modernization
Last week, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced his plan to take the next step in the E-rate modernization process. Read this blog post from FCC Managing Director Jon Wilkins about the announcement. The blog includes links to an E-rate Data Update staff report and a press fact sheet. The agenda for the FCC's December Meeting has been announced, including the E-rate item. A blog from Chairman Wheeler announcing the agenda is available here.
