October 28-30, 2015

The Leaders Partnering for Success conference is approaching so please make sure to reserve your spot before the October 19th registration deadline!

We will kick off the conference on Wednesday, October 28, with a special tour of the award-winning San Diego Central Library, followed by a Welcome Reception.

Then on Thursday and Friday, members and community leaders will engage in open discussions about shared visions and goals for addressing education and racial/social equity and identify ways in which they can help build a stronger framework for successful community-wide collaboration.

The conference will feature a series of presentations that provide a shared understanding of social innovation and the central role that community partnerships play in effecting social change. Discussion panels and community success stories will spotlight how attendees and speakers can translate the principles of social innovation into practice at the community level.

New Report Demonstrates San Francisco Public Library's Value to Community

A new impact study conducted by the San Francisco Controller's Office showed that San Francisco Public Library's 14-year Branch Library Improvement Program (BLIP) for 24 branches had an influential impact on the local economy and neighborhood vitality.

According to the report, for every $1 invested in the program, the city realized a return of between $5.19 and $9.11. The program also contributed to over $330 million in indirect and induced benefits to the city's economy. St. Louis County Library Praised for New and Renovated Branches

St. Louis County Library (SLCL) recently received praise from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for the progress made in the library's Your Library Renewed campaign to renovate or replace 19 branches, which cut the original 10-year master plan in half to ensure library users have access to top-of-the-line facilities. The new project received significant community input in the planning process, with library director Kristen Sorth referring to the new branch as "the library the community built" in a recent press release.

SLCL will open the new Lewis & Clark Branch to the public on Wednesday, October 14 . Responding to community feedback, Library architects reinstalled the old branch's iconic stained glass windows depicting American explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and Sacagawea.

The Lewis & Clark branch is the first of six renovated branches planned to reopen over the next four months. Phase One of the Your Library Renewed campaign is expected to be complete by the end of 2016.

SPOTLIGHT ON INNOVATION
Digital Library
Community Project

The Digital Library Community Project brings the San Antonio Public Library's digital resources to current and potential users in convenient public places. Using digital bookshelves in community centers and kiosks at the San Antonio International Airport, patrons can check out digital resources or download them to their mobile devices. In the first four months of operation, the airport kiosks received nearly 30,000 page views and 1,000 checkouts. Digital bookshelves in community centers led to a 53 percent increase in use of the library's digital resources.
