Russell's Ritings....

A LOT OF TRUTH HERE:

Watch your thoughts, they become your words.
Watch your words, they become your actions.
Watch your actions, they become your habits.
Watch your habits, they become your character.

This Sunday we are privileged to have our own Joyce Snapp preaching for us. Joyce, a retired clergy in the Rocky Mountain Conference, is a blessing to us. I call her MY pastor! Diane and I are in Nashville this weekend for the confirmation of our only grandchild, Kyler, as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Franklin. On Tuesday evening we will be meeting with the Pastor Parish Team of our new church, Ingomar UMC, and then flying back to Denver on Wednesday.

I will be in prayer for UMCE this weekend, and I know you will support Joyce. The text Joyce will preaching from this Sunday is 1 John 4: 7-21, and the sermon will be "When Love Beckons."

Shalom,
Russell

THANK YOU FOR THE ECHO
FOOD BANK  DONATIONS!

Our church donated 198 pounds of food to the Evergreen Christian Outreach food bank! Our Giving Place shelves were filled during the month of April and the many different items were delivered to the food bank this week. EChO always greatly appreciates receiving our donations for use with their many clients. UMCE supports the food banks at EChO and Mountain Resource Center in Conifer.  The food that is collected in May will be given to the food bank at Mountain Resource Center.  Those cans of soup do make a difference!

MOTHER'S DAY EVENTS ~  SAVE THE DATE!
Sunday, May 13th

MOTHER'S DAY BREAKFAST AND
SPECIAL MOTHER'S DAY WORSHIP SERVICE
Breakfast from 9:15-10:30 am ~  Celebration at 10:30 Service

The Men's Fellowship Group will be serving a special breakfast between services on Mother's Day Sunday from 9:15 - 10:30 am . Then stay for a special 10:30 worship service where the men will honor mothers and others who care for children and loved ones in the Christian home.

CHRISTENING AND DIAPER SHOWER
Christening at the 10:30 Service with
Diaper Shower and Cake After the Service

This Mother's Day we will be celebrating the christening of a new little member,  Scarlet Begonia Brady, daughter of Bernie and Meredith and sister Stella.  Cake and refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall after the 10:30 service to welcome our newest little one and her family.

We would also like to make this a diaper shower! So if you would like to take part we ask that you bring a package of disposal diapers (size 2-5) as your gift to the Brady family.  Diapers may be left in the Fellowship Hall ahead of time. No wrapping is needed. You may add a card or you can remain anonymous. This is meant to be easy on everyone but it will be a big help to the Brady family!

We are starting a new UMCE tradition, and we hope you will join in. We will be doing this for any of our members starting or adding to their family. Thank you!

ADULT EDUCATION

Sunday, April 29 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Facilitator:  Dr. Lorna Idol
We will learn or review how to communicate clearly and effectively. In our personal, professional and church relationships, effective communication is the key to learning from others and to being heard in respectful, caring and Christian ways. We will learn and practice using active on-going listening and responding skills to facilitate effective communication (e.g., acknowledging, paraphrasing, reflecting, clarifying, elaborating and summarizing). We will be utilizing adult education materials from one of Lorna's published professional development programs: Collaboration in the Schools:  Communicating, Interacting and Problem Solving.

Sunday, May 6 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
SERIES ON THE PARABLES (No. 5):
LOST AND FOUND (LUKE 15)
Facilitator: The Rev. Russell Fletcher
Sinners come to hear Jesus. He is criticized for relating to them and then tells three stories about a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost boy. The chapter teaches that a loving, compassionate, saving God welcomes and forgives sinners.

Hope to see you there!
Lorna Idol, Ph.D.
Adult Education Coordinator
