Russell's Ritings...

During Lent we are singing the chorus to the old hymn, "Higher Ground", each Sunday. During this penitential season our goal ought to go on toward higher ground. We need to increase our faith and walk of discipleship by holy living and by doing deeds of compassion, mercy, and sacrifice.

We need to increase our faith!  I read this recently:

If your car would start one out of three times, would you consider it faithful?

If your television worked 60% of the time, would you consider it faithful?

If your newspaper delivery person skipped your house every other day would you call that faithful?

If your water heater greeted you with a cold shower three days a week would it be faithful?

If you failed to report to work five or six days a month would your employer call you faithful?

If you missed a couple house payments a year would your mortgage holder say, "Oh, well, ten out of twelve isn't bad."

If you attend church once or twice a month would - 25 or 50 percent of the time - are you faithful?

I hope to see you this week.  We continue the series on "The Christian Vocabulary".  This week, HEALING, Luke 10: 20 - 37.  "and the folks are friendly!"

Blessings,
Russell
