From Rev. Sheri Fry
Testify to The Light,
Advent -  John 1:6-8. 19-28
The Prayer Book of John the Baptist
Is written on locusts' wings.
Is stained with
Wild honey.
Is buckled by
Baptismal waters.
Is mostly
Pages of wilderness
Where prayers are formed
Not from what is present
But what has been
Worn away.
Is inscribed
With an ancient path.
Is waiting.
Is falling open
Toward the light.
Advent is a time to light the candles and pray - not merely in memory of what was, but in hope and in blessing for love that endures and life that persists.  Light comes as solace and unexpected grace.  Light comes as a reminder that we have, at the least, the power to help illuminate the path for each other.  It matters that we hold the light for one another.  It matters that we bear witness to the Light that holds us all, that we testify to this Light that shines its infinite love and mercy on us across oceans, across borders, across time.
On Wednesday afternoon, December 20th   Rev. Steve Shive, General Presbyter of the Wyoming Presbytery and I will hold our first small group congregational meeting to offer the opportunity to talk about Rev. Jason Harshberger's resignation and to have us all share and express feelings around his departure.  We are asking this first listening session be kept to 15 people.  We will have another group meeting in January.
We believe God continues to be a loving and graceful God even though negative and consequential things have happened to this community of faith and we are dedicated to ongoing healing and reconciliation.   A reconciling congregation is one that moves through the grieving process, maturing in their faith and trust has been restored in God, in ministry, and in one another.  Let us continue this work together.
Please contact me at upcLaramiepastor@gmail.com or call the church office with your questions, comments and registration for this meeting.
Peace and Blessings,   Sheri

Bell Ringing This Coming Saturday
UPC is signed up to ring bells for the Salvation Army on Saturday, Dec. 9th from 8am to 5pm at Safeway. The goal is for 9 teams of 2 and the more the merrier! Please contact Norm Merriam and/or Matthew Painter (307-343-0604; matthewapainter@yahoo.com) to come out and ring!
This week's theme is Star Wars.  Pageant practice will take place this week.
Cantata Readers
Needing readers to narrate the Christmas Cantata performance, Sunday, December 17th.  Will require coming to a few rehearsals with the choir.  Please contact, Lorinda O'Hashi, text or phone, 307-761-2687 or E-mail, LorindaO@aol.com.  Thank You!
Cookie Sale and SERRV Sale
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, December 9, at 9am. The United Presbyterian Church will host its annual cookie sale to benefit Family Promise of Albany County. There will be cookies, pecans, cinnamon rolls, free trade items from Serrv (see  serrv.org), and FREE COFFEE. The event usually wraps up by about  11:30am or  noon.

For the second year, Mission is opening a boutique to sell SERRV products as part of the Annual Cookie Sale on  Saturday, December 9  starting at  9:00 a.m.   All profits from this boutique and the sale of the pecans will go to support Family Promise.  There is a great selection of scarves, jewelry, crèches, ornaments, and baskets that make terrific gifts for giving (or keeping).  Additionally, due your requests last year, some food items such as coffee, Zula Fire Sauce, chocolates, Hot Rocks seasoning, soup mixes, and jams are being offered. Let's help out the SERRV artisans throughout the world while getting Family Promise closer to opening (they're almost there).

Our biggest need is for cookie donations.  Holiday-themed cookies tend to sell best, though all types of cookies are welcome! Cookies do not need to be individually-wrapped, as our customers will walk around with a gloved hand to gather cookies. Cookies may be dropped off this week at the church (corner of 11th & Grand) on Wednesday from 10am-1pm or 3-6:30pm; Friday from 11am-2pm, or Saturday morning between 8-8:30am. Please contact me at jspainterdc@gmail.com with any questions. I'm also happy to pick up cookies! Please also spread the word about this event!

December Care Cart
Although Community Holiday tags were given out in November, this program is the December Care Cart.   Elf help is needed with the Toys for Tots and Community Holidays collaboration.  Community Holidays needs help in sorting and distribution while Toys for Tots needs help in packing their bags.  To volunteer for Community Holidays, go to  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090af23a3f94-2017  and to help Toys for Tots, just show up at the Eppson Center on December 11, 12, or 13.    If you took a tag from UPC's tree, your unwrapped gifts need to be brought to the church and left under the tree between December 8th  and December 11th.   PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR GIFTS TO THE BAPTIST CHURCH.    Also, if you have surplus wrapping and bows, please leave these items in Marcia's Closet.  If you're baking some cookies for Distribution Day, you can take them directly to the Baptist Church on the 20th or give them to a member of the Mission Committee (Vi,  Wayne, or Nancy L).   God bless us everyone. (Tiny Tim)
