a look at immigration through the lens of our faith
|
The Social Witness Committee and Faith & Life Class invite you to a three-part series on immigration, February 12, 19, and 26, 9:30 a.m. in the Great Hall.
Feb 19: Focus on Refugees: Merinda Cutler, Austin Volunteer Coordinator with Refugee Services of Texas, will discuss some of these questions:
- How many refugees does the US Department of State relocate to our city each year?
- What does this journey look like and what type of "vetting" do refugees go through before being approved to come to our country?
- Once here, what services and assistance do they receive?
- How can we help these families and individuals get a good start on their new life as a Texan?
Coffee and treats available at 9:15 a.m.
Everyone is welcome!

Plan Ahead...Austin Marathon Is Sunday, February 19!
|
|
The annual Austin Marathon, which has a rich history since its inception in 1992, also annually presents UPC with a bit of a challenge coming to worship. The race begins downtown at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, February 19, and encircles 26.2`9 miles of the city.
Let that be no deterrent, however, to getting to church on time. Whether you live north or south, you can easily access the church from Mo-Pac and 24th Streets (Windsor). Avoid 15th Street and MLK.
See you Sunday!

You Are Invited to the Micah 6 Food Pantry Dedication February 19
|
In 2016, UPC Session approved a request from the Micah 6 Board of Directors to dedicate the food pantry here at UPC as the “Micah 6 Dan Robertson Food Pantry.” Prior to his death in December 2015, Dan served this ministry a faithful volunteer, fund raiser, and board member, and was board president for several years.
Please join the Micah 6 board, staff, and volunteers, along with Dan’s family, Sunday, February 19, at 1:00 p.m. in the Great Hall as they celebrate his service and dedicate the food pantry to his memory. All are welcome!

Border Mission Trip March 13-18
|
Our 2017 Border Mission Trip will occur Spring Break week. We will leave following worship on Sunday, March 13, and return Friday, March 18. The trip will again be a joint effort involving UKirk college students and members generally. During the week we will build a house for a deserving family in Reynosa, Mexico, under the direction of Faith Ministry.
If you are interested in going, there will be an informational meeting in the Fellowship Hall immediately following worship on Sunday, February 26. Food will be provided. Please come to the meeting if you feel you might be interested.

For more information, please contact Craig Deats at 512.567.1419 or
[email protected]. Thanks to all for your continued support of this vital mission of the church. You make it possible.
|
|
Donations Needed!
Whether or not you can go with us, please make a contribution to help us defray costs. The Service Committee’s budget for the Mission Trip had to be cut 25 percent this year, and it costs approximately $250 per person to transport, house and feed our mission trippers. College students especially are on tight budgets, so every donation large or small is critical. You can contribute by placing a check in the offering plate endorsed to UPC but clearly marked for the Border Mission Trip, or give the check to Craig Deats. Please contribute as soon as possible.
