Olivia is still in Franklin parish, waiting for a happy ending with a loving home.

We've been working hard to find homes for 80 dogs from our volunteer chapter in Franklin parish, which is closing its doors on July 31stSpecial thanks to everyone who donated, in response to our recent  email

Because of your generosity, we can now ensure that all of the Franklin dogs will be adopted, relocated to our sanctuary and/or foster homes.  The unexpected need for space and care, however, still exceeds all of our current sanctuary resources.

Ellie Mae

Lovely hound dog Ellie Mae (#30)  has just been spayed.
She's is ready to leave Franklin parish for a second shot
at a home at our sanctuary. Most of the dogs still require
neutering, which will cost thousands of dollars.

Buddy and Topaz
THE GOOD NEWS:
We've been able to adopt out nine of the Franklin dogs already, and another five are scheduled to be transferred to another no-kill group on August 17th. We are working on a variety of adoption transport options, and we have adoption applications pending on another four of the dogs. Fingers crossed they find homes soon, too, like Buddy and Topaz (left) did!

URGENT ACTON STILL NEEDED:

We still must relocate 36 dogs from the Franklin facility this week.  We are actively networking with other organizations to help, and we will soon open and operate a temporary overflow housing facility for dogs near our shelter.  HSL crew members will stay on site with the animals, as we work to foster, adopt and care for them.

Although we can now ensure a happy ending for all of the dogs, the July 31st deadline is still looming. In just a few days, we will lose our dedicated animal caretaker, who has been feeding and caring for the dogs, since our former chapter leaders have been unable to help. The dogs must be relocated to us in the next few days, which will involve vehicle rentals, vaccinations, vet bills, additional food and supplies and more! All of the dog kennels and runs must be taken down and reassembled at our sanctuary, as well, so we've got a big job ahead of us!

VOLUNTEER

Do you have some free time during the next week?  Do you have a trailer or other large vehicle? We need extra hands to help us take down and reassemble kennels, relocate food, animals, etc, and also make trips between the Franklin site and our sanctuary. Please contact Johnna at johnna@humanela.org. (The trip between the Franklin site and our Tylertown property is a six hour round trip.)
