world renowned Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik
April 20th-21st, 2018
Hailed for his dazzling command of the violin and its repertoire, as well as a communicative immediacy that harkens back to the legendary Romantic masters, Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik has become a highly sought-after artist on the concert stage worldwide. He has an old-fashioned rhapsodic style, which is magnified by his rich, sweet tone.

Kutik will be accompanied by American pianist Spencer Myer , l auded for “superb playing” and “poised, alert musicianship” by The Boston Globe, American pianist Spencer Myer is one of the most respected and sought-after artists on today’s concert stages.

Being Jewish, Yevgeny Kutik will join our congregation and guests for a casual service, reception and short preview performance. If you plan to attend the service, please arrive by in time for a 5:15p.m. start. Reception follows at 6:00p.m.

This unique Shabbat service will be musical, creative, artistic, but will most definitely be a service . Wyoming Seminary's Madrigal Singers under the direction of John Vaida will directly participate, doing settings of actual prayers. The highlight will be the Kedusha from Ernest Bloch's Sacred Service which they will sing with Cantor Abraham. In lieu of a sermon, our guest artist, Yevgeny Kutik will talk about his experience coming to America with the aid of HIAS and Jewish Federation. Music will be included in his presentation.

First Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre

Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik and pianist Spencer Myer will perform a full concert with some of the best literature in the violin and piano repertoire including Mendelssohn's Violin Sonata in F, Baal Shem Suite by Bloch, Prokofiev's Waltz from Cinderella , Achron: Hebrew Melody and Lullab y, and Ravel’s Tzigane, rapsodie de concert . The concert is also part of the PNC Chamber Series of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic. Champagne reception follows concert.
