Announcing the UPE Scholarship Winners

  On the evening of July 16, 2017 the UPE Board of Director was pleased to present the inaugural UPE Scholarships to four worthy recipients.  Each winner receives $1500 towards his or her college education for the 2017-2018 school year.  This year’s winners were: Hunter Kincaid, Kristine Buysman, Nicolette Tavalero, and Amanda Croteau. 


Speaking for all of UPE, Executive Director Ted Somera, who presented the awards, spoke of the caliber of all the applicants. “We received a number of very competitive applications for the scholarship and selecting the winners was a difficult process for the Board of Directors.  All the applicants reflect the values of hard work and dedication our members embody everyday.  We are thrilled that UPE can help such deserving young-people with our inaugural UPE Scholarships.”

Hunter Kincaid
  Hunter Kincaid will attend Friends University as a freshman in the Fall.  She excelled academically and in sports during her time in high school.  Kristine Buysman recently earned her Associates Degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology and will be transitioning into a BA proram in the fall.  Nicolette Tavalero was an active member of the YMCA’s Youth and Government Program and will be attending the University of Arizona as a Communications Major in the fall.  Finally, Amanda Croteau will pursue a degree in biology and plans eventually to earn her Masters Degree in the same field.  

The Union is exicted to play a role in helping these young-people take the next steps in their lives.  The UPE Board of Directors looks forward to seeing what comes next for these worthy winners.
