Principal Update:

Thank you to everyone who filled out the UPark Satisfaction Survey.  As the school's new principal, your responses and comments provided valuable insight.  One common theme from the feedback was the desire for families to understand how and when they should receive communication from students' homeroom teachers.   Currently, we know that all teachers do reach out to the classroom families, although this communication looks different from teacher to teacher.  In working with the CSC, our goal is to create a communication policy that outlines the minimum amount of teacher communication you should expect during the school year, and what that communication should entail.  We want to come up with a policy that honors and respects the individual personalities of our staff, while ensuring all families receive the same basic information from their students' teachers year-to-year.  I have been working with the staff since the beginning of school to understand all the different ways we communicate today, and will continue to work with our staff, Senior Leadership Team, and CSC to form some guidelines that will make communication even easier for our staff and parents.  Please click SURVEY RESULTS to see the rest of the data from the survey.

On another note, the Winter Holidays are approaching quickly.  I have seen what a generous community we have through the donations to our Apple Campaign and the amount of volunteer hours spent at, and for, the school.  I've witnessed the daily care and compassion from students and families towards others as I walk through the halls, visit classrooms, and spend time on the blacktop before and after school.  Reflecting upon this generosity, I'd like to continue a personal tradition I started in 2009 and respectfully refrain from receiving any holiday gifts.  I am grateful for your well wishes and feel truly fortunate for all that I have.  For those that are filled with the spirit of giving, please feel free to make a donation to any charity that is important to you and your family in lieu of any gifts for me.

CSC

Last week, Superintendent Tom Boasberg held a parent forum where his team presented on "The Whole Child and Personal Success Factors."  Based on the latest educational research, the concept is to incorporate 7 key personal success factors into a child's everyday learning experience - Curiosity, Gratitude, Grit, Optimism, Self-Control, Social Intelligence, and Zest.  As this language becomes more commonplace in the classrooms, we wanted to make sure our families had access to the information on how these personal success factors can make a difference in a student's overall learning experience.  Please click PERSONAL SUCCESS FACTORS to find out more.
