UPark Auction News
Do you own a business that could benefit from name recognition among our UPark community? Our annual auction is a great way for your company to increase its name recognition among our community while supporting our school! We have 4 levels of sponsorship for this year' s UPark Auction:
Gold level ($4,000):
  • Corporate link and logo goes on all of our event materials: auction invitation, online auction page, school website and school app.
  • Corporate logo will be prominently featured in our live event program
  • Corporate logo will be part of our media program for the live event.
  • Your company will receive 6 free tickets to the live event.
Silver level ($2,500):

February Safety Update 

All schools in the Denver Public School District write and update a plan each school year that outlines what to do in the event of an emergency. Please find the plan for University Park here. This month we have also completed 1 fire drill, 2 lockdown drills, and our annual student fire safety training presentations.

Staff Updates

Rebecca Johnson will be increasing her hours as an Intervention teacher for the 2018-19 school year. She will be stepping away from her English Language Acquisition teaching position. 

Gifted and Talented
Heather Wise has the opportunity to increase the hours of her Gifted and Talented teaching position here at UPark so will be stepping away from her role as a math/content teacher in 4th grade. This change will start the 2018-2019 school year. 

UPark has a new fully staffed facilities team. Dominique Abeyta is our facilities manager and she is supported by Shampagne Padilla and Joseph Maes. Click here for Dominique's bio.

Merrill Middle School Keynote Speaker

Kim Bevill, a highly respected Keynote Speaker  from Gray Matters, will be coming to Merrill Middle School on Wednesday  2/28/18 from 6:00 - 7:30.  Kim trains educators and parents on the applicable neuroscience and the  instructional strategies that work for anyone with a brain! She will be highlighting  the following topics and will provide strategies for parents, teachers and kids to get  the most out of our amazing brains:
  • Relationships and Academic Achievement
  • Health & Wellness/Stress and the impact on Academic Performance
  • Happiness & Gratitude - How and Why It Improves Academic Behavior
Parents, Kids and Teachers are all invited for this free event! We encourage you to  bring a $5 or $10 gift card (e.g. Starbucks, Chipotle, Target) per attendee as a
donation towards the "Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies" Program at

5 Star Wizard Hat Students
Congratulations to last week's 5 Star Wizard Hat students! They were recognized by their teachers for positive behavior. 
Last week's students include: Brody Gold, Elizabeth Pischel, Ariel Adame, Elaf AlSaaid, Lily Snyder, Kalan Londono, Wynn Morris, Karamia Castanon, Charlotte Hayes, Matthew Long, Eliza Helgerson-Rahn, Valana Thompson, Eilee Brutsch, Mohammed Alsaadawi, Natasha Nensel, Bryan Wills, Charlie Davis, Sydney Goude, Eve Robinson, Rachel Garcia-Villatoro, Jack Stallworthy, Autumn Trujillo, Lincoln Barber, Carl Kristensson, Elsie Chen, Jesus Martinez-Casillas, Sidney O'Connor, Xavier Pena, Justin Criswell, Armonie Campion, Lilly Wills, Olivia Babbitt, Maria Elgadi, Liam Nugent.

Wizard Hats are given throughout UPark to celebrate students' good choices and positive behavior. We use a common vocabulary and teach Critical Thinking skills using the BrainWise curriculum.  Each week there is a random drawing of 2 students done by classroom teachers. These children are photographed and receive a token of our appreciation.

*At the end of each month we will be donating all clothing in the lost and found and anything left in the halls (all clothing will go into our little red school house in our parking lot).
