The next PTA meeting will be Tuesday, January 12 at 9:05 am, right after drop off, in the art room.  Principal Varveris will share data from last year's PARCC tests and discuss school budget planning for next year.  Everyone is welcome!  We will not have child care, but feel free to bring your little ones who aren't in school.

To show our appreciation for our wonderful staff, the PTA provided lunch on the first day back this week.  Thank you to Modmarket and UPark parent Kathy Lee for their help!

Would You Like to Make a Difference at UPark on February 27?

Hello Friends & Neighbors of University Park! Your community council is teaming up with Project Helping to offer residents the opportunity to help make a difference in the neighborhood in 2016. Our first project will start at University Park Elementary School, who needs our help to paint 10 classrooms and provide some TLC in the school. We are seeking 50 volunteers to help us on Saturday, 2/27/16 from approximately 9am - 1 pm. Bring your family, friends & anyone who likes to paint. And if you can't join us, please consider a small donation to help us raise the $1,200 for paint & supplies. Click here for more details and to sign-up. THANK YOU!

Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope for Heart is coming soon!  The Kick Off Assembly is on Friday, February 5th, 2016 in the afternoon.

Parents, we are excited to kick off Jump Rope for Heart!  Your student is becoming a Heart Hero by taking care of his or her own heart, spreading the message of the American Heart Association, and raising funds for lifesaving research.  Have your student jump online at heart.org/jump to send emails and ask for donations.  ANY STUDENT WHO GOES ONLINE AND GETS A DONATION WILL BE RECOGNIZED AND RECEIVE THE SUPER PUP AND NINJA STAR PUPPIES. Students that register at heart.org/jump and raise at least $150.00 online BEFORE the kickoff presentation on February 5th, 2016 will be honored at the kick off and receive Toby! All donations must be received by 6pm the day before the kickoff.

We need volunteers !  We are in need of volunteers for behind the scenes planning, handing out and organizing "the ducks", counting donations, organizing end of event prizes, day of event station workers, and much more.  If you would like to help out with the Jump Rope for Heart event please contact Tracy Hartin at [email protected]

Thank you for supporting the American Heart Association!

BackPack
BackPack for Kids Program

The BackPack for Kids Program wants to thank Girl Scout Troop #63006 at University Park Elementary for their outstanding support right in our own school. These amazing young ladies put together a food and gift card drive all benefiting the families in the BackPack for Kids Program. Dozens of non-perishable food items were gathered so our families in need have food each week. The troop also donated $110 in gift cards so fresh produce and vegetables can be purchased. These girls really came through in a big way! On behalf of the BackPack for Kids Program and the Wellness Committee at University Park, we thank you all!

Thank you parents for reducing waste by checking out one of our 10 new Zero Waste Party Kits for December celebrations. Classes and parents are reusing colorful plastic cups, bowls, plates, spoons, etc instead of buying disposable paper products.

Thank you to all the students who so inspired us by creatively combining materials to decorate the 1st floor  "tree" next to Room 116. Congratulations to the students whose names were drawn to win prizes for the Recycled Ornament Challenge:

Giovanna Golan- K Havenar/Hale

5 Star Wizard Hat Students:

Congratulations to last week's 5 Star Wizard Hat students! They were recognized by their teachers for positive behavior.

Last week's students include: Franzisca Henze, Kate Hauhuth, Ramsey White, Gabrielle Panella, Sheri Wetherall, Brianna Beach, Carlee Erb, Kennon Lamm, Cadence Branham-Benson, Shreyas Rao, John Paul Merkle, Adrianna Villalpando, Grace McFarland, Maddy Reeves, Emerson Cord, Khloe Brown, Luke Combs, Jace Gustafson, Evan Carmichael.

Wizard Hats are given throughout UPark to celebrate students' good choices and positive behavior. We use a common vocabulary and teach Critical Thinking skills using the BrainWise curriculum.  Each week there is a random drawing of 2 students done by classroom teachers. These children are photographed and receive a token of our appreciation.

*At the end of each month we will be donating all clothing in the lost and found and anything left in the halls(all clothing will go into our little red school house in our parking lot).
