Principal Update

Thank you to all the students, parents and staff for your hard work with testing the last few weeks.  As a school we are evaluated on many things, including our performance on standardized tests.  I am very proud of everyone's attentiveness, support, and effort during this first part of testing.  This can be a stressful time in schools, and I'm happy to say that all your support helped make our first portion of standardized testing run as smoothly as possible.

Believe it our not, we are already thinking about the 2015-16 school year.  Next week, I will send home a digital copy of our University Park Student Placement Process - the process our UPark staff will follow to create next year's class lists.  Within this process is an opportunity for parents to submit a Student Information Request Form.  This optional form allows a parent to express certain learning styles and behavioral needs for his or her student.  Deadline for parent input through the Student Information Request Form is Thursday, April 9th. Please know that our ultimate goal at UPark is to create three well-balanced classrooms at each grade level.

5th grade fundraiser

Have you purchased any pickles or popcorn after school?  5th grade is continuing their after school snack fundraiser! The purpose is to raise enough money to leave a legacy gift for University Park that represents a Culture of Kindness.  5th grade students will be selling a variety of delicious snacks, so please support them by buying one after school on the playground.  They will continue daily as the weather cooperates! Thank you from all the 5th grade students for your support!

UPark Spelling Bee

After having conversations with teachers, parents and students last year, I decided at the beginning of the school year to separate the Semantics Team from the UPark Spelling Bee. Our Semantics Team had amazing successes this year and I'm looking forward to ending our school year with our own UPark School Wide Spelling Bee!

We will have spelling bees within each classroom and then each grade level, finishing with a school wide spelling bee. Classroom teachers will be disbursing spelling lists this week but I've also uploaded grade specific spelling lists for first through fifth grades on my website- please click here for a direct link!

To allow for ample work and study time, the classroom spelling bees will be completed by Friday, April 24th (please check with your child's teacher for specifics). Once all three classrooms in each grade level have completed their bees and there is a TOP FIVE from each room, I will hold a spelling bee in my classroom for each grade level's 15 students either Tuesday, May 5th or Thursday, May 7th.

The TOP FIVE from each grade level spelling bee (25 students total) will participate in the school wide spelling bee after school on Thursday, May 28th!

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this is a great experience for everyone!

Thank you!
