Semantics Team News - Mrs. Wise

The UPark Semantics Team competed in the DPS Written Spelling Contest on Thursday, February 18th with 300+ students from all over the district. They worked hard to reach this point and did a great job. Fourth grader Angelina Holm made the DISTRICT TOP 25 (first EVER in UPark history!) and will be competing in both the DPS City Orals Spelling Bee on Wednesday, March 9th as well as the Colorado State Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 12th! Congratulations to our team and good luck, Angelina!

Green Team Update

Next Meeting:  Friday, March 4th, 8:15-8:50, room 116.

We are pleased to report the success of our new zero-waste party kits. These colorful kits of 30 place settings can be checked out for use in classroom parties, then washed and returned. A great choice for the earth, and budget friendly!  E-mail Judy Cardenas to check out a kit for your next class function!

Congrats to the many classrooms who showed improvement in their classroom waste management!  Green Team representatives performed a mid-year trash assessment, counting how many pieces of recycling and compost were in the landfill trash bins. They will use that data to help improve results throughout the school.

Look for our students wearing our new "Dare To Be Green" shirts on Fridays!

Show Your School Spirit!

UPark beanies and socks are now available in the office.  Beanies are $20 and socks are $10.  Cash or checks made out to UPark PTA are accepted in the office.  This is not a fundraiser.  The PTA is passing these items along at cost so everyone has more opportunities to display their school spirit!

Congratulations to last week's 5 Star Wizard Hat students! They were recognized by their teachers for positive behavior.

Last week's students include: Shyla Trinen, Mohamed Shukry, Giovanna Golan, Spencer Posey, Cain Wetherall, Vance Vialpando, Elizabeth Sliter, Drew Finley, Evan Carmichael, Gavan Littman, Peter Hum, Owen Alleman, Sorren Cochran, Jacob Chase-Cho, Logan Shirey, Nona Slevin, Casey Clendenin, Nate Bolinske, Ahmed Saleh, Helen Reichert, Lucy Noble, Dillon Dibianco, Sam McPherson, Ryan Kim, Abigail Jones.

Wizard Hats are given throughout UPark to celebrate students' good choices and positive behavior. We use a common vocabulary and teach Critical Thinking skills using the BrainWise curriculum.  Each week there is a random drawing of 2 students done by classroom teachers. These children are photographed and receive a token of our appreciation.
*At the end of each month we will be donating all clothing in the lost and found and anything left in the halls(all clothing will go into our little red school house in our parking lot).
