5280 Magazine's latest issue rated the top 25 neighborhoods in Denver and the University Park Neighborhood came in #3. The magazine gave our school a nice mention! Click here to see the article.  

We have filled the two Kindergarten Paraprofessional positions. Freddi Gidan and Alexis Morof will be joining the UPark staff in these positions next year. 

Congratulations to Liz Reynolds who will move to our open 2nd grade position next year! We will inform you as we hire a new Kindergarten teacher.

University Park Multi-Cultural Celebration Night
Sponsored by the UPark PTA and ELA Department
On Thursday, May 12th from 5:00-7:00, we will gather at school to feast and celebrate gratitude for our children, their families, and our school community, who represents over 20 different nations and many diverse cultures. Special entertainment and activities will be a part of the celebration. Each family is asked to contribute a dish that represents their cultural roots or just a family favorite! Side dishes, vegetables, salads, breads, and desserts are all welcome; choose your favorite dish to share because the PTA is handling the main course!  Our celebration will provide an opportunity for learning about others. We hope you also come in traditional apparel and participate in our Parade of Nations.
Please RSVP to the ELA department with your confirmation of attendance, the number of guests, and the dish you plan on bringing:

UPark Field Day

Please join us for Field day on Friday, May 27th. The rain date will be Tuesday, May 31st. Field day will be held on our school grounds this year, session one is 9:30-11:00 and session two is 1:30-3:00. Student lunches will be at the normal scheduled times and families are welcome to stay and picnic with their children. Look for more information as we get closer to the event.

Important Library News!
As the school year comes to a close, we want to inform UPark Families about important library dates regarding checking out and returning books for the end of the school year. The last week students can check out library books is the week of May 9th - 13th. ALL LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE MAY 20TH. A letter detailing the end of the school year procedures and policies will go home with your child the week of May 9th. Please make sure to read the letter for detailed information about returning books, lost books, etc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jamie Gentry by email at or phone at 720-424-3418.

UPark Academic Achievement Award

Congratulations to UPark Kindergarten student Ryan Yoonsung Kim who received an Academic Achievement Award on Sunday, May 1 at the DPS Asian Education Advisory Council's 31st annual Awards Breakfast with his teachers, Ms. Cardenas and Ms. Rebecca Johnson.  

Spring Fun Run

Warm up those legs for field day and join the Before School Fun Run Program May 16-27.  Each morning at 8:40, kids can run the track to earn charms (K-2) or compete for a class party and individual prizes (3-5). Please consider volunteering a morning or two and keep Upark "The Healthiest School in Denver"! Click here to volunteer.

Help Finish UPark's Painting Project June 4th

After such a successful phase 1 of UPark Elementary painting, we are excited to finish what we started and knock out the remaining 2 classrooms, plus a little touch up work in the others.  Please join us on Saturday, 6/4 from 9am-1pm. We already have the supplies, we already have the experience, so please come join us and others for another fun day of painting and getting to know your neighbors in the UPark community.

5th Grade Fundraiser
The 5th graders are continuing to raise money for their class fundraiser. They will sell snacks on the playground after school, weather permitting.  The purpose is to raise enough money to leave a legacy gift for University Park that represents a Culture of Kindness. Thank you from all the 5th grade students for your support!

Help beautify our school! 
We'll work to weed, rake, plant and spread some mulch on the St. Paul (entry) side of UPark on Tuesday, May 17, 3:30-5:30pm. All students and their adults welcome. Some tools and gloves provided, but bringing your own rake or shovel - even better.

Thanks for your help caring for and improving our school grounds!

5 Star Wizard Hat Students

Congratulations to last week's 5 Star Wizard Hat students! They were recognized by their teachers for positive behavior. 

Last week's students include: Harlan Konwinski, Trevor Welch, Gabrielle Panella, Orion Schlesinger, Evan Petrucelli, Peter Hum, Zachary Collisson, Andrew Johnson, Dalia Gutierrez, Ramsey White, Jackson May, Otis Metz, Dax Johnson, Lucy Frenkel, Duncan Monroe, Bemandwele Ray, Charlie Gold, Declan Todd, Drew Finley, Emerson Cord, Jaiden Lewis, Jude White.

Wizard Hats are given throughout UPark to celebrate students' good choices and positive behavior. We use a common vocabulary and teach Critical Thinking skills using the BrainWise curriculum.  Each week there is a random drawing of 2 students done by classroom teachers. These children are photographed and receive a token of our appreciation.
*At the end of each month we will be donating all clothing in the lost and found and anything left in the halls(all clothing will go into our little red school house in our parking lot).
