Principal Update:
Here at UPark, we have several students with severe nut allergies. Nut Allergies fall under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Approximately 15% of the population has food allergies, 5-7% being classified as severe allergies. At any time, University Park could have 25-35 students with severe food allergies.
Here are some of the steps we are taking at UPark to keep our students safe:
- Currently researching peanut butter replacement options in the school cafeteria, but nuts will not be banned
- Processes implemented in the cafeteria to keep nuts separate from other foods
- Implementing process to ensure the nut-free table in the cafeteria is uncontaminated at ALL TIMES (not only at lunch)
In addition, Colorado is working to make guidelines that allow schools to stock Epi-pens into law (House Bill 13-1171). I will continue to work with the school administration, staff and parents to implement policies that will last from year to year.

Thanksgiving Lunch Reminder:
Lunch will be Tuesday, November 18th. Parents/siblings and other guests are welcome to join and have lunch that day with their child. An adult lunch is $4 and non-students are $3. We will also be accepting donations that day for Food Bank of the Rockies. Please consider your change as a donation to them. Last year, we donated over $300 from your generosity! |
Do you have spare time? Would you like to make a few extra dollars each school day? We have a crossing guard position available before school and after school. It pays $8 an hour and is perfect for someone in the neighborhood. Email Principal Varveris if you, or someone you know, is interested. |
Coat Drive November 13-20
University Park Student Council is sponsoring a Coat Drive for The Brandon Center. Brandon Center is a shelter program for homeless women and homeless women with children. The shelter provides assistance to those seeking refuge from domestic violence. We are accepting all coats, new and gently used in all sizes-children's, men's and women's.
