Occidental petroleum has only backed out of the fight

NOT out of Carson.

Oxy has only backed out of one project NOT out of Carson.

The fight here in Carson has been monitored around the world.  Oxy had to do something to protect their assets.  They continue to operate the two test wells, in fact they are no longer test wells they are in full production.  As soon as the city council votes to approve the Oil & Gas Code which allows oil drilling in Carson it may only be matter of time before they move forward with the Oxy Project and others.

City council will consider spending $500,000.00 to defend including the word Fracturing (Fracking) in our ordinance.  Why not draw up an ordinance banning oil drilling in Carson since all the areas that the new ordinance will allow drilling is either residential or populated areas.  Why not spend that money to defend a ban on drilling, which automatically includes fracking?  We have as good of a chance defending that ordinance as we do defending an ordinance that only bans fracking.

Since the loss of our moratorium, we have no protections and we must pass an ordinance quickly.  South Carson is the first to suffer the consequences of the loss of our moratorium.  There are 2 new wells going in near the Carousel community.  Yes, the Carousal community is the first to feel the extent of city council's inability to do the business of the people.

Just a stones through form the Carousal community this oil rig is what they see from their back yards.

We must insist at the city council meeting Tuesday, February 17, 2015 that an emergency item be placed on the agenda and city council votes to include a ban on oil drilling in our oil & gas code here in Carson.

If City Council refuses to protect the residents and city of Carson, the Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing Tuesday, February 24, 2015 on the proposed ordinance we will need to convince them to send the ordinance back to council, requesting a emergency meeting be held to include a ban on drilling, and be sent back to the Planning Commission for immediate approval.

This is our last best chance to stop this assault, if city council passes this ordinance oil drilling will be here until the oil runs dry.  Some permits for oil drilling here in Carson have no expiration and the only way to stop them from taking advantage of our future generations is to place a permanent ban on drilling.

2015 State of the Union

President Barack Obama Climate Change

During the 2015 State of the Union speech President Barack Obama stated no challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change.  He goes on to say 2014 was the planets hottest year on record,  and that 14 of the 15 hottest years on record have all fallen in the first 15 years of this century.

President Barack Obama Oil Drilling He also stated America is #1 in oil & gas, wind power and every 3 weeks we bring on line as much solar power as we did in all of 2008.

With America being #1 in oil & gas why is the City of Carson under this assault?

Based on the draft oil & gas code areas zoned General Commercial, Regional Commercial, Light Manufacturing and Heavy Manufacturing areas with some restrictions drilling will be allowed.
