Greetings Members
As many of you are wrapping of what was hopefully an exciting and productive season, we on the regional council are busy finalizing initiatives and planning for 2016.

This year marked our first Youth and Junior Triathlon series. Many congratulations to the participants and the overall winners.

Our paratriathon committee is very active, currently preparing for a free clinic hosted by the Virtua Center for Health and Fitness in Sewell, N.J., Nov. 14-15. See the article in this newsletter for more information.

I'd like to take this opportunity to invite you all to attend the Richmond Endurance Athlete Symposium (REAS) on Saturday, Jan. 23. This is the third year REAS has hosted a stellar line up of speakers and we will be presenting a panel discussion regarding the impact of draft legal racing in our region. Coaches will be eligible to earn CEUs.

Last but not least, I'd like to welcome two new members to our committee.

Brenda Barrera is a long time activist in multisport, a resident of Williamsburg, Va., and a staunch promoter of women in our sport. Look for Brenda to be more active and present in our region in promoting all things multisport and engaging women of our region.

Todd Lippin is a coach and athlete hailing from the Philadelphia area. Todd is the founder director of the Breakaway Racing Team. As he joins the council, he's looking to engage coaches and clubs as well as athletes in a team approach to multisport.

We'd also like to welcome back to the council JoAnna Younts, our current treasurer, Robert Vigorito, our vice chair, Ken Modica, our representative from PA, and yours truly. Thank you for your support and vote. We are excited about the upcoming season.

Thank you as usual for your support and feedback!

Top Junior Awarded in Region Series
Talent ID Series Logo The USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region is proud to announce the Champion of the 2015 USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region Junior Talent ID Series.

Congratulations to Matthew Deaton, Ruckersville, Va.. Matthew finished sixth at the East Coast Triathlon Festival and first at the Druid Hill Triathlon.  In addition to a series medal, Matthew will be receiving a custom made Talent ID Series pull-over.  The series is designed for junior triathletes age 15-19 to race in non-drafting, sprint distance, junior-friendly events which are scheduled during the summer months to avoid school conflicts. Series races serve as an entry point for many young athletes into USAT's talent identification pipeline.  (Note:  There is not a female winner as no one met the series requirements of racing in two or more of the series events.)

The 2016 race series will be announced in early 2016. For more information, visit: https://usatmajuniors.wordpress.com/talent-id-series/.

Fall Is Hunting Season . . . for Athlete Sponsorship Opportunities
For those of you looking to take your racing to the professional level it's important to remember that being a professional means just that - being professional. Not only do you need to be a tough competitor at the elite level, but you will need to cultivate sponsorship deals in order to support your racing endeavors.

What are prospective sponsors' expectations for athlete partnerships? In addition to the obvious top podium placement, most companies are looking for dynamic athletes who have the ability to draw customers to their products and services through: 1) connectivity to social media; 2) involvement in their local community; 3) visible presence at local, regional, and national events.

Check out Chad Latino's blog post with some tips to help you secure products or financial backing from sponsors.

Chad Latino is the Chair of the Coaching Committee for USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Council and owner of Mountain Endurance International (MEI), LLC., a sports marketing and coaching company. Latino is the former coach of the University of Montana Triathlon Team that included (now) professional triathletes Linsey Corbin and Ben Hoffman.

*Mark your Calendar: January 23, 2016 when the USAT Mid-Atlantic Regional will be hosting a seminar for professional athletes who want to learn how to optimize social media outlets at the 2016 Richmond Endurance Athlete Symposium in Richmond, Virginia.
