10th Annual Green Schools Event
Tuesday, April 11, 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Green Schools Quest47 schools are participating in the 2016-17 Green Schools Quest. At each school, Green Teams devised and implemented - with the help of a USGBC-MGC Green Mentor - creative, effective and no or low cost sustainable practices for their school.

Join us at the 10th Annual Green Schools Event, taking place as our April program, when we'll announce the winners and celebrate participants of the 2016-17 Green Schools Quest!

Several winning schools will take the stage to tell the fun and inspiring stories of their experiences. Additionally, attendees will find out how they can participate in the 2017-18 Green Schools Quest, as schools or mentors.

In Depth Seminar
Wednesday, April 19, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Lunch included from 11:00 - 11:30 am, presentation from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Join USGBC-MGC and Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) - Greater St. Louis for a lunchtime program on sustainability in construction administration! The presentation will kick off with a discussion on creating construction administration documentation that incorporates both sustainability and LEED requirements as well as successful document submission. Attendees will then examine best practices for educating the construction team, site procedure impact, and record keeping from a contractor's perspective. Presenters will use the LEED Gold Washington University Olin Business School expansion as a reference point throughout the presentation. The expansion was completed in spring 2014 under an aggressive 20-month schedule for which Tarlton served as construction manager and William Tao & Associates as mechanical engineer.

PRESENTERS
Lisa Sombart, President & CEO, William Tao & Associates, Inc.

ADVOCAVY ALERT: #DefendClimate and Act to Preserve  EPA Programs, including ENERGY STAR
The United States Office of Management and Budget released its plan for the proposed 2018 budget, which includes elimination of or deep cuts to vital programs.  The Environmental Protection Agency's  Energy Star WaterSense  and  Safer Choice  programs are all in jeopardy.

USGBC and many others in the building industry rely on these tools from EPA to create and sustain high performing green buildings! Our 20 x 20 Voluntary Energy Benchmarking Campaign uses ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to help building owners track and improve their energy performance. Portfolio Manager is also the basis for earning energy performance credits in LEED Building Operations + Maintenance. It is free tool with a proven track record that helps reduce energy use, lower energy costs, and protect the health of humans and the environment. Win-win-win!

Additionally, in recent days President Trump signed an executive order rolling back the Clean Power plan. This threatens our ability to limit and deal with climate change.

WELL AP Exam Prep Course
Tuesday, May 23, 9:00 am- 5:00 pm
Developed in partnership with leading physicians, scientists, and industry professionals, The WELL Building Standard® (WELL) is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact the health and well-being of the people who live, work, and learn in these buildings.

The WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP) credential signifies knowledge in human health and wellness in the built environment, and specialization in the WELL Building Standard. To become a WELL AP, candidates must pass the WELL AP exam. This course, designed to prepare attendees for the WELL AP exam, will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of WELL, including the seven concepts that provide the framework for the building standard: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Fitness, Comfort and Mind.

Call for Yards! 2017 Sustainable Backyard Tour
Host Registration Due: April 29
Tour: Sunday, June 11, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Sustainable Backyard Tour, held each year in June, is a unique opportunity to see firsthand how homeowners in St. Louis City and County are living greener lives and utilizing their yards and rooftops in more environmentally sensitive ways.

More than 200 families have welcomed tour goers into their yards since the first tour in 2011, demonstrating such practices as composting, organic gardening, chicken and beekeeping, native plant landscaping, rainwater conservation, renewable energy production, and backyard habitat creation. Attendees design their own routes, choosing from locations and descriptions written by the homeowners.

While many host sites are the traditional backyards of single family homes, tour organizers welcome hosts who garden from apartment buildings, rooftops, and front yards. Institutions are also encouraged to apply. The deadline to register is April 29.
