Children's Jumper Regional Champion Spotlight: Ava Stearns

As the 2013 USHJA Children's Jumper North Regional Champion, Ava Stearns was awarded a coveted spot in a 2014 USHJA Emerging Athletes Program Regional Training Session of her choice. Stearns, of Chilmark, MA, will be participating in this week's EAP Regional Training Session held at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ. Leading the clinic is head clinician Julie Winkel and stable manager Colleen Reed.
"I am really excited to be able to be a part of the 2014 EAP! It's nice to win great prizes at shows, but winning an opportunity is even better," said Stearns, upon winning the 2013 Children's Jumper North Regional Championship.
Each Regional Children's Jumper Champion was awarded the opportunity to attend a Regional EAP Training Session. All four regional champions-North, Central, South and West-will be taking advantage of this opportunity at 2014 EAP Training Sessions, with Stearns being the first to attend.

2014 USEF National Junior Jumper Championships

It's not too early to apply for the 2014 USEF NationalJuniorJumperChampionships.
Riders wishing to be considered for the 2014 USEF National Junior Jumper Championships must complete and submit an application online at www.usef.org no later than August 31, 2014. There is a $25 fee per application.
Additionally, horse/rider combinations wishing to participate in the USEF National Junior Jumper Championships must earn a Certificate of Capability by completing a course set at 1.40 m (4'7") or higher with a score of 4 faults or less within their zone's qualifying period.
Each rider entered in the championship must submit their Certificate of Capability to the Federation office in Lexington, KY by September 12, 2014.

Coast to Coast EAP Regional Training Sessions Underway

The 2014 USHJA Emerging Athletes Program, presented by Dover Saddlery, kicked off its first of nine Regional Clinics in Canby, OR on June 4-8. Hosted by Oz Inc., head clinician Cynthia Hankins and stable manager Nanci Snyder led 19 young emerging athletes through the rigorous four-day clinic.
The second of nine Regional Clinics commenced on June 8-12 at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, GA. There, head clinician Anne Kursinski and stable manager Anne Thornbury provided words of wisdom and sound advice to 24 eager participants. Additionally, a demonstration on proper nutrition and conditioning, was given by USHJA Contributing Sponsor, Nutrena.

The last of the Early Summer Regional Clinics, hosted by Centenary College in Long Valley, NJ, is currently underway and is being led by head clinician Julie Winkel and stable manager Colleen Reed.
Riders and horses participating in Regional Training Sessions are instructed on flatwork, gymnastics, related distances and course work, as well as an intensive stable-management curriculum that will incorporate proper care and grooming, horsemanship skills, and barn management. Riders will also complete a written test as part of their evaluation for the National Training Session.

* Classes offered above 1.30m (and all classes restricted to young horses)-The only martingales permitted are running martingales used in the conventional manner. BOD 6/1/14 Effective Immediately.
