Give the Plate
As we end this week which began with the celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and brought us to the gathering of tens of thousands of people for the Inauguration of a new President, it is a sign of UUCA's commitment to the values and ideals of our greatest prophets and our nation, that we designate our offering on Sunday to provide scholarships for children of color to attend UUCA's summer Peace Camps.   Little Friends for Peace (LFFP) is  an organization that teaches peace to children of all ages, races, ethnic groups, and economic classes.  UUCA celebrates its two decades of partnership with LFFP, a non-profit organization that empowers children and adults to solve problems nonviolently, to build relationships through compassion and empathy, and to create a culture of peace. UUCA's Peace Ministry, partnered with LFFP since 1997, conducts  an annual Peace Camp for children, youth counselors, and adult leaders--from our own congregation and from our community partners.  GTP button Monies raised for LFFP this Sunday will go to scholarships for children from our partner organizations to this summer's Peace Camp.

Shrek the Musical--Why Now?
Shrek logo Chalice Theatre chose to produce Shrek, the Musical, when we were finishing the 2016 South Pacific run.  At that time, Shrek's appeal was its large ensemble-which meant lots of opportunities for cast-and the musical's fun, up feeling.  Now, almost a year later, we gather for rehearsals in a political environment that feels very different from our past seasons. According to Chalice's Director, Walter Ware III, Shrek is the perfect production for this time.
