Reflection...

New Acts of Courage

Life does not call us merely to do
over and over again what we have already done;

nor does it call us to act out,  as puppets,
parts already assigned to us.

No.

In the midst of a situation which is itself ever changing,
we are free to bring into realization
new relationships of understanding and good-will,
and new acts of courage.

Sunday Service
Sunday, July 1
10:30 AM:   "Everything Changes" - Margaret Wozniak, coordinator

Everything is impermanent and changing.  We do not have to wish things to be different.  We can align ourselves with the reality we face and say, "Yes" to the present moment.  When we say "Yes" to the present moment, we host eternity."  (David Richo)

Our 7th Annual Summer Specialty Classes have begun!
It's hard to believe that I've had the privilege of serving this community for 7 years...  This summer will be filled with outdoor fun (as weather allows) - lots of games, exploration, and building friendships!

Suggested reading for families/parents

This month I am suggesting a fun way to kick start the summer!
"Backpack Explorer:  On the Nature Trail:  What Will You Find?" - edited by Storey Publishing

"Jump-start curiosity with this take-along field guide for children ages 4 and up.  From worms, birds, and spiders to trees, flowers, and clouds, young explorers learn what to look and listen for wherever they are - whether in a nature preserve, an urban park, or a suburban backyard.

Seek-and-find lists, on-the-trail art projects, and discovery games get kids engaged in hands-on learning about nature, and a real pull-out magnifying glass helps them get a close-up glimpse of leaf veins, seed pods, and tiny insects.  Filled with activities, checklists, and stickers, this interactive nature guide belongs in every kid's backpack."   https://goo.gl/oT4Jym

Announcements

Thank you to all fellow UU congregants
Your cards, notes of concern, food for dinners, calls and visits are greatly appreciated by Pinkie and myself as she continues to deal with this rare brain cancer that seemingly came from nowhere.  She finishes her radiation treatments on June 27.

If you would like to come for a visit, let us know and we will plan accordingly.  Her energy level is low, but she is alert and enjoys some company.  Thanks again, John and Pinkie Hoffmann

Our Business Administrator is leaving us
Our Business Administrator, Sheri Novak, has been offered an opportunity that she cannot refuse. It is the same type of work, but with the flexibility to work from home and choose when to put in the hours. We are happy that Sheri has this opportunity, but sad to be losing her after three years of good work here at UUCGT.

Due to the nature of our Business Administrator's role, many of you may not have had the opportunity to work with Sheri. She has been meticulous in her accounting role and has responded promptly to many special requests for information. In addition she has served as our Human Resources person and guided us through a number of issues around health care, workman's compensation and disability, many of which have been first time issues for UUCGT. Sheri has been a joy to work with and will be sorely missed.

Sheri has given us ample notice and will not be leaving until mid-August. We have already posted her job and will, hopefully, begin interviewing candidates for her replacement soon.

Save the Date! -
Sunday, July 15
UUCGT Social Justice Committee (SJC) Meeting
(after Sunday service @ noon)

SJC has undertaken radical transformation to support and expand the vital social work and social justice actions of the UUCGT congregation supporting Grand Traverse, Benzie, Leelanau and Antrim Counties, the state and the nation.  The Social Justice Committee aspires to build and grow a dialogic culture at UUCGT, and in the community at large, modeling the six sources of the UU tradition and to nurture compassionate social witness in the UUCGT and beyond.

The SJC invites all members of UUCGT to attend a one hour meeting on Sunday, July 15 detailing the changes to this committee and its purpose.
If you need childcare, please sign up at the Welcome Table in the Social Hall by SUNDAY, JULY 8.

Pizza will be provided for adults and we will have a snack/lunch for any children we know are attending.  You can also bring a lunch.
