The Solstice Teaches Us
~ by  David Breeden

The Solstices teach us
that darkness comes,
that darkness goes.

The Solstices teach us
that light comes,
that light goes.

The Solstices teach us,
calmly, silently, to be
calm, silent.  Learning.

The Solstices teach us
as we circle the sun
that everything flies.

The Solstices teach us
to remember the dark,
to remember the light,

to remember time.
The seasons.  And love
as we circle the sun.

Sunday Service
Sunday, June 24
9:45 AM:  "No Time For Casual Faith" -  Live Streaming direct from UUA General Assembly 2018
All Congregation Service - children stay in sanctuary with families

Please note earlier start time of 9:45 AM so that we can settle in, listen to announcements, and light the chalice before the UUA GA live stream begins at 10:00 AM.

From the UUA General Assembly:
Grounded in a deep belief that we are all prophets, Unitarian Universalists ask, "How can we faithfully meet the demands of our time?"  The call to witness and act for justice in our society and in the world is clear.  So, too, is the call to examine our structures and practices, dismantling and transforming those which fail to recognize the full humanity of all people and to honor the interdependent web of life.   The call of our faith has a place for each of us.

Together, we will ask:

-  Who and how are we called to be at this time, individually and collectively?
-  How are we called to act and to live?
-  How does our Unitarian Universalist legacy strengthen us in living out our mission?  In what ways does our legacy present challenges and impediments to answering our call?

This will be a magical opportunity to join thousands of UUs from all over the world for the closing worship of the UUA General Assembly in Kansas City.  Great music and preaching and a chance to experience the World UU community!

P.S.  As this is also P ridWee k, this Sunday we invite you to wear as many colors of the rainbow as you can!

P.S.S.  A Summer Solstice Celebration reception will follow the service in the social hall with special treats provided by UUCGT CUUPS - Join us as we welcome Summer!

Thursday, June 21
3:45 PM @ UUCGT

Please join us on  the longest day of the year for a 30 minute meditation for the world.   All ages are welcome to mindfully participate in this opportunity to reflect on the interdependent web of life and our connections with all beings.

Our time together will include a brief guided/reflective reading, followed by silent meditation and a closing.

Our 7th Annual Summer Specialty Classes have begun!
It's hard to believe that I've had the privilege of serving this community for 7 years...  This summer will be filled with outdoor fun (as weather allows) - lots of games, exploration, and building friendships!

This month I am suggesting a fun way to kick start the summer!
"Backpack Explorer:  On the Nature Trail:  What Will You Find?" - edited by Storey Publishing

"Jump-start curiosity with this take-along field guide for children ages 4 and up.  From worms, birds, and spiders to trees, flowers, and clouds, young explorers learn what to look and listen for wherever they are - whether in a nature preserve, an urban park, or a suburban backyard.

Seek-and-find lists, on-the-trail art projects, and discovery games get kids engaged in hands-on learning about nature, and a real pull-out magnifying glass helps them get a close-up glimpse of leaf veins, seed pods, and tiny insects.  Filled with activities, checklists, and stickers, this interactive nature guide belongs in every kid's backpack."   https://goo.gl/oT4Jym

UUCGT Summer Potlucks!
A Request for Rocks!

Just before you get to the front entry of UUCGT there is a small circular garden space.  In the middle of the circle is a spectacular bush, known as a Harry Lauder's Walking Stick, a relative of the hazelnut tree.  This bush demands to be the center of attention!  To honor his demand, we have decided not to detract from his splendor with flowers.  Instead, we would like to create a small garden of rocks, stone crop and day lilies.  To that end, we would like to ask you to contribute some of your favorite rocks to Harry's garden.  Not big rocks, but perhaps potato-sized rocks, from baby redskins to Idaho bakers.  the bed will be ready to receive rocks.  If you would like to contribute rocks, just put them in the flower bed as you are able and when you wish.   Thank you in advance, and Harry thanks you, too!

UUCGT Social Justice Committee (SJC) Meeting
Sunday, July 15 after the Sunday service at noon

SJC has undertaken radical transformation to support and expand the vital social work and social justice actions of the UUCGT congregation supporting Grand Traverse, Benzie, Leelanau and Antrim Counties, the state and the nation.  The Social Justice Committee aspires to build and grow a dialogic culture at UUCGT, and in the community at large, modeling the six sources of the UU tradition and to nurture compassionate social witness in the UUCGT and beyond.

The SJC invites all members of UUCGT to attend a one hour meeting on Sunday, July 15 detailing the changes to this committee and its purpose.
If you need childcare, please sign up at the Welcome Table in the Social Hall by SUNDAY, JULY 8.

Pizza will be provided for adults and we will have a snack/lunch for any children we know are attending.  You can also bring a lunch.
